SSD and clean installs

A mate of mine at the beginning of the year built a new rig and gave me the SSD out of his old one. It's got a heap of stuff on it and I'd like to do a fresh install. I went to use CCleaner on it to wipe it first and it said it can damage the drive. Is that true? I know almost nothing about SSDs and have no idea.

CCCleaner is crap, just avoid it.

Just wipe the drive by formatting it, don't need to do anything fancy.

What people are claiming is that securely wiping data is potentially bad for an SSD since SSDs have maximum wear cycles on their data. As Tech report showed, this is a non issue in the real world.

Unless you're worried about security of the drive data, example: you are donating it to unknowns or are disposing of it in the trash, there is no reason to use a drive cleaner. Follow Ace Pace's advice and just format it.
