I don't get the "no inventory" or really "I liked the inventory mechanic of RE1" insanity. Look, I lurk some of the seedier gaming sites for info because, as I've said before elsewhere: angry people with no lives just trolling the Internet for new things to hate tend to find info faster than anyone else. And that's primarily where I found this: to acitony, things to action-moviey, NO INVENTORY! kind of "wtf is this guy talking about" idea that's surrounded the RE series for years.

But who the fuck would WANT inventory as a mechanic, at least in this case? Especially in a game like Resident Evil. You only save in one room and this magic box kept all the stuff you couldn't carry and teleported it to new rooms and those save rooms were fairly convenient, especially before a boss fight. So, your grenade launcher for the plant boss was one death and reload away.

For just an example: Star Control 2 had "inventory" as a mechanic. You built your ship for different missions. Sometimes you had to drop weapon or energy pods for more crew or fuel. But, for the most part: inventory just needs to not be "awful" like it was in Mass Effect 1. You could carry anything, but it was soooo shittly implemented in that game.

I really can't see how "they changed the inventory" was not only important, but how it even changed the game. Being stuck out in the wilds of the galaxy with your precursor ship setup wrong: sure. You're talking about a long trek back to base with the possibility of losing a LOT of time and progress if you reload a point you could fix it. You had to plan ahead and bring other escort ships that might be better able to protect you. But in RE? More an annoyance than anything and certainly not something (IMO) that should make it "WORST GAME EVER!"

RE7 doesn't avert the trope of Suspicious Videogame Generosity, there's one room about 2/3 of the way through where you find a fair few items and is a dead giveaway that there's a boss battle just ahead.

One thing I found is that the flamethrower burner is actually pretty lacklustre, both in terms of range and damage. On the other hand, the remote charges are really good- supposedly you can stick them to enemies but I never figured out how. You just don't get access to them until late in the game.

When those vomit thingies grab you and you fall to the ground, you can stick the bombs on them. Seems rare that they get you to the ground. I'm playing on Easy, though.

I finally beat the game. It took me ten hours and change. The ending is a let down, but otherwise the game is quality. The new difficulty level you unlock when you complete the game for the first time is hard as hell. I died five or six times within twenty minutes. Items, puzzles, and enemies are different on this difficulty too.

The main problem I have with this game is that there's no multiplayer at all, all you have is the main game. All I can say is, the rewards for getting all the unlockables/pickups had better be damned awesome if I'm even going to attempt madhouse, never mind complete it.

I'd have been feeling very ripped off if I'd paid the full £40 to buy the game on Steam and not the £26 I'd actually paid on Amazon. The graphics may be great but IMO the game isn't worth the full price.

I’m resurrecting this thread to say that everyone should try this on the Madhouse difficulty. I started today and it’s socks damned difficult. The enemies move faster than you do, ammo is sparse, you have to have cassette tapes to save and those are limited, and items are moved around.

It’ll take a while to beat it.

We've been playing back through RE5 on PC. Amazingly, I'm not bored after Normal > Vet > and now up to the Giant Fight on Professional. There's a reason RE5 and 6 are the best selling titles in the series but Capcom seemed to stupidly listen to the "fanbase" when it came to "co-op sucks."

If anything, two games outselling all the others in the series should really have told them they found a winning combination, haters aside, and the numbered games should have kept this going while something like the current RE7 should have been under its own label.

Also, Kyle unlocked the Tribal Sheva Skin the first time through. So, the second time through during the Jill fight, he's straddling her during the QTE, I got nothing I can do except watch, and all I can say is:

"Man, this game looks gooooood in 4K."
"You ok back there man?"
"Oh yea, doing just fine."

Yeah, 5 and 6 had a lot of unlockables and stuff worth earning- I'm not sure why I bought 5 at the time but I don't regret it one bit! I remember I'd just built my i7 rig so the game ran sweet as a nut :D The two revelations titles were good too and the co-op aspect is one of the things I like about the series. That they went and threw all that away really takes the piss- I suppose I need to give zero another go as it was pretty 'meh' when I tried it.
