Atlantic Fleet for PC

Post by darthkommandant »

Atlantic Fleet is a PC port of a Android game. Don't let that fool you though it is really good. It covers the battle of the Atlantic from both the Royal Navy (with some USN support) and the Kreigsmarine sides. About the only ship I could see missing was he Graf Zeppelin but Germany does get everything else including 2 H39 class ships. The I haven't taken a close look at the Royal Navy yet but they have all of their good toys. I know cause I sank most of them in my dynamic campaign. U.S. Units include the North Carolina Class and the Jeep carriers.

It plays like a combat mission if combat mission was a naval game. There are also several game modes such as single battles, a fairly good tutorial for gunnery, torpedoes, aircraft ect., finally there are 2 campaign modes one where you build up a fleet and fight preset battles and a dynamic campaign.

In dynamic campaign you take 3.5 day turns and move pre bought or player bought fleets of 30 ships across the Atlantic. There are events representing the fall of Norway and France. Other events include bombing raids on shipyards which delay repairs and attacks on unescorted convoys.

The goal of the Germans is to sink 300000 tons of merchant shipping a month for 4 months to knock Britian out of the war. When the U.S. joins this number shoots up to 700000 tons per month. There is a helpful bar up top to track this. As the RN you must get the convoys in anyway you can.

In the tactical battle mode your ships crew gives you an aprrox bearing and elevation. More runs on the same target increase accurate as does watching shell splashes and adjusting accordingly. Torpedoes are controlled similarly and can take several turns to reach their target. Ships also have multiple components and realistic sinking physics in that it's generally better to undershoot your enemy so you shells hit the hull or go in the water just short. Armor is also realisticly represented. And yes you can disable a ships steering gear, rudders, or propulsion cause I've had it happen to me.
