Popular theory is that she represents the pre-refit configuration of the Warspite; the standard Queen Elizabeth class (whenever the hell she finally arrives) will have a range upgrade to probably be best-for-tier.

Nah, she clearly is post refit. The reason for the short range was that when she was first introduced, she had the biggest and most powerful guns of her tier, coupled with the most OP heal and damage control countdowns of all BBs. So they balanced her by giving her short range.

Then they released new long-range cruisers and BBs and thus she suffers heavily from powercreep.
Ah. For some reason I was thinking that her in-game state was the 1924 refit rather than the 1934-1937 rebuild. A quick check on Wiki says otherwise.

Which leaves me a little worried that the mainstream QE will have the same problems, unless they jointly buff the Warspite when the UK BBs proper come out.

Sorry it's a ship from 1912 with 42cal guns, what do you really expect? Wargaming cuts down firing ranges, but they do so in proportion to real life usually. They've done some ahistorical stuff a plenty, but I doubt that one will change. They love doing this too because all the Soviet ship guns claimed stupid high firing ranges no matter the cost in accuracy.

Actual exposure of the Queen Elizabeth class to combat with ships with comparable calibers of gun was rather limited, and all against the Italians who had bad ammo and bad leadership. Even with the improved shells and 30 degree elevation QE range was not competitive with high caliber and longer bored ordnance in other fleets by WW2. It's just in real life before 1944 era radar the only way you could really expect to hit anything past 30,000 yards was with air spotting and that was only going to work if the enemy was also steaming on his own straightish course trying to use his own spotting.

I wish they'd just go and make a super arcade mode where you get an actual division of ships. So maybe only 2 people can be battleships in one round because that's already 8 battleships, but it would bring out the purpose of the ships better. Player controls the lead ship barring executing a simultaneous reversal. Fighting Steel made this work easy long ago.

Randomly I also wonder if Wargamming would consider a 'rescue other ships crew' bonus for stopping beside them. Now that they have such nice sinking mechanics that would be cool.

My goodness. I just uh. Got a Nikolai I from a crate.

This thing... makes me feel dirty playing it. First game, ran around an island to encounter a battle line of a Wyoming, two Kongos and a Myogi. Tanked all four of them effortlessly, while placing 14-20k volleys into each side for about 5 minutes. Sank three solo. Last one ran and got burned down by an enemy cruiser.

Checked my health: Took at most, 10k damage in the entire exchange with 4 enemy battleships, 2 of which were higher tiered.

You can get ships in crates? News to me, but then again I'm on the EU server and more likely to be gimped anyway

The 3 euro crates have high chance of getting premium ships. Buy them one at a time and open them before buying the next to avoid getting multiples of the same ship since you can't seem to get another ship of a type sitting in your port. So far I spent way too much money but got Anshan/Arizona/Warspite/Tirpitz, plus 90 days premium and ~4k doubloons from 12 crates.

Does it takes a while to receive? I bought one of each but nothing showed up yet

edit: nevermind, found them

I guess that the Captain re-spec is going to be ruinous for DD players? That's what people are reporting?

Well, in true Wargaming fashion, they decided to cater to braindead battleship morons who can't remember to change course and speed every two minutes - because CA players getting oneshotted for that is fair game but when a BB eats ten torps to his face because he straightlines for five minutes that is apparently a huge problem.

So to cater to the braindead BBabies, they deciced to introduce two more skills.
One shows you how many players are aiming at you.
The other one shows you from what direction they are aiming at you.

In essence this means that if the BB is able to look at his screen no single DD will ever be able to torp him. So no more DD clutching a game. No more solo warrior achievement for any class besides CVs.

I don't know what WG is thinking honestly. Sure, they are saying "Test it first" but honestly, if I know roughly where the DD is he will not kill me.

As someone who mainly plays BBs destroyers basically never cause me any issues as long as you are not brain dead about it. Wargaming need to tell other BB drivers to suck it up.

Cruiser flamethrower HE spam on the other hand is the bane of my existence.

Yeah, that Radio Position Finding skill is gonna be death to DDs that are trying to ninja around islands or lay smoke screens to cover themselves. Won't be long before someone makes a mod to replace the general indicator currently used with an actual arrow, allowing for much clearer pre aiming.

Cruiser flamethrower spam is just fine because without it high tier cruisers (except minotaur and hindenburg) are screwed.

Of course WG is nerfing demolition expert in the new skill tree too, 2% instead of 3% fire chance. :banghead:

It's meant to appease the casual gamers who enjoy games that are merely point and shoot, instead of thinking really tactically. It doesn't help when cruisers stop escorting the Battleships all the time.

I've noticed that with our resident Polish ship, yes. A lot of non-pens.

I can tell from that result that you were firing at the wrong parts of the ships. Aim for the superstructure and you will get more pens (except on German and some japanese BBs).

Oh and go closer to the enemy, use your smoke etc.

Had a nice brawl, and some friendly banter after the fact, with a seal-clubbing Nikolai player yesterday in the Furutaka. I had scored some nice AP hits on some CLs, then saw him sailing uncontested on the other side of some islands. swung around, put some solid hits into his softer bow, and then flushed the tubes at him after he had changed course from where he thought my torps would be going.

I ended up getting obliterated by a Kongo shortly after but not before getting another couple citadels on a Phoenix. 203mm AP at tier 5 is absolutely devastating.

...

Opened 3 Santa boxes earlier in the week, got not much but the premium camo. Was sad until I realized the combo of that and the +200% XP first win event makes the modified XP missions for the Graf Spee go absurdly quick.

Thanks for the heads up Mr. Wizard. I totally wasn't doing that.

I was using my smoke. As I said, I was at a sweet spot where I wasn't being detected event without it, in fact I was at the edge of my acquisition the entire time, which probably accounts more for non pens than not aiming at the super structure.

Don't get pissy with me. I have played 185 games in that ship, if you get that many shell hits with that many shatters/non-pen you were clearly aiming at the wrong parts of the ship or - even worse - you were spamming HE from max range the entire match. Neither will give you many pens, it just makes you look like a potato.

Meanwhile, in other news:

Pretty good for my second time in a Konig I think.

The rest of the team got wiped out pretty early on, leaving 3 battleships, one of which was completely undamaged, 2 cruisers, 2 destroyers, and an aircraft carrier, for me, another BB, and a Cruiser.

We lost that last allied cruiser, but the other BB and I sunk everything except one destroyer and the carrier. Time ran out before we could recaptures the points which the destroyer took while we were dealing with the BBs.

This game can be utterly frustrating at times. I kept losing all the games when I did over 60k damge, and winning the games where I did less than 40k damage and get double XP for low scores.

Fuck this game.

The ship only pack of the Graf Spee went on sale in Asia so I picked it up. This was my first battle with her. This was a tier 8 game and finished with 4 kills & topped scored in my team. Not too shabby I thought.

Picked up a Dunkerque because why not. Gotta say, it looks gorgeous witht he Ocean Soul camo.

The class is a prime example of something that made a lot more sense historically(as a commerce-raider hunter) than running around on it's own in the hot mess that is WoW. The secondary batteries are out of this world, but no rear turret means there isn't a lot you can do if you have to turn out and skedaddle. Not only that, the high speed is great but the temptation to slow down and keeping your bow facing the enemy negates that advantage.
