What The Hell Happened To My Sound Drivers?

ALSA error: snd_mixer_find_selem failed.

ALSA error: snd_pcm_open failed: No such file or directory.
Technical specs of my system. I'm running 64-bit Lubuntu 13.10. Audacious spits the above message out when I try to play a music file; VLC is even less informative. It was working fine up until I downloaded and installed the last batch of updates, haven't tried a rollback yet.

Anyone else having this problem?
