I have had that almost happen. Sometimes it's a risk I know I'm taking, but I do it because they asked for fire support. Sometimes it happens because an ELC AMX or T-50 or something ran in there at my target all of a sudden and now there's a friendly in the target area I just condemned to death and/or severe maiming.

So this. It doesn't matter what kind of tank you are. Unless the enemy obstructs your ally from your fire or you're close enough that there's no way, just don't do it unless your guy is dead anyway. Back when I had my T1HT an idiot BDR-G1B fired at the KV-1 I was dueling and she didn't even wait for her gun to stabilize, hit me side-on and killed me. The KV-1 then managed to kill one of our TDs before it got finished off, and I had been about to kill it myself. We won anyway, but it was still quite annoying.

My worst memory of something similar is when I was in my M103. I was grinding against the side of an Obj704, so it couldn't turn. I had the son of a bitch dead to rights and tracked.

Then a friendly S-51 fired a shell at him, hitting me, dealing around 1000 damage and killing me instantly. That Obj704 then went and got 3 kills shortly after.

Here's the new video about the American tanks in the 8.2 update:

I think I'll stick with my T20. That T21 doesn't look fun at all, if it's similar to the M24 and gets the same kind of MMing (which I rarely enjoyed).

About the only times I feel safe firing on 2 face-hugging tanks as an arty are:

1) when the friendly tank is about to die and I have the hang-time plotted out perfectly

2) when I'm in my SU-26. 100% crew, and near-vertical drop. Then I can be...helpful.

I'll be stuck grinding the M3 Lee for the foreseeable future, so I won't be getting in on the new American tanks when 8.2 launches.

Victory!
Battle: Highway Wednesday, December 12, 2012 6:17:53 AM
Vehicle: ELC AMX
Experience received: 956 (x2 for the first victory each day)
Credits received: 12,795
Battle Achievements: Sniper

Good thing non-penetrating hits count for Sniper, because that short 75mm does precisely dick against anything of a higher tier. Still managed to scratch the paint on a T32 and a Lowe with HE rounds, though. Hell, I'm stll surprised I managed to survive that battle reasonably intact. At least I finally earned enough XP to research the long 75mm gun now.

I have began tooling around with British tanks recently, though my general boredom with the game means I don't grind them nearly as hard as I used to. Still, I very much like the A13 and, in fact, I like it so much I don't want to go to the next tier.

Yes, it is a one-note tank ; It either gets close/in a good hull down position and unloads an unholy can of destruction on everything, or it get smashed. But I still like it: it is zippy, and the second turret's bouncy like nobody's business.

Well, unfortunately for me, I started down the other British tree, where the tanks are as slow as molasses, have the finest tinfoil for armor, and are one of the main culprits for my win rate tanking over the past week (apart from my own general incompetence). Speaking of my exploits with those tanks:

Defeat
Battle: Widepark Wednesday, December 12, 2012 7:16:29 AM
Vehicle: A10 Cruiser Mk. II
Experience received: 247
Credits received: 5,216
Battle Achievements: Reaper

Most of my team ran around like headless chickens and got themselves killed, and I got overwhelmed by an A13 Covenanter towards the end; probably could have made it a mutual kill if it wasn't for the slow reload speed on my howitzer. Still surprised I managed to derp three enemy tanks before going down, though.

You see, when it comes to the ELC I am eternally grateful that I had gotten the AMX-12t before 7.5...because that got me a free Elite/100% crew ELC :P

The 90mm is quite the powerful gun. I love the thing, which is the main reason why I haven't sold the ELC yet. ;)

I just sold mine because fun as the 90mm is, I absolutely hate playing light tanks in high-tier matches. Still, having already researched the Long 75mm made the BRD G1B infinitely more fun. :D

Eh, I still like it :P

Also, interesting match in my Priest:

Victory!
Battle: Port Wednesday, December 12, 2012 1:41:44 PM
Vehicle: M7 Priest
Experience received: 457
Credits received: 9,991
Battle Achievements: Mastery Badge: "2nd Class"

This was with the stock gun (which means horrid range) against Tier 8 tanks. I didn't get a single kill...which makes the fact I got that much XP all the more impressive (to me).

I tried the ELC but I sold it soon after unlocking all the equipment for it.

It's a good tank, with the ability to influence matches if used well, but I don't like how it gets scout MM. While it can pass as a scout, it has a crappy radio and the worst view range of all the tier 5 scouts. When I try to use it as intended (a fast flanking TD) I get bitched at for not going out and scouting. Even without the insults I feel like I'm letting my team down by not going out and using it to scout. If I'm going to scout I'd like to use something better suited for that role.

LOL.

The M7's a fun tank though. I actually managed to kill a Ferdie using one - in a solo battle - in the beta days.

The Ferdi took three whole minutes to die and was bouncing shells even with its rear armor, but it's the glory that matters dammit.

Ah, I love a good match in the M6. Only one that actually managed to hurt me was their Grille, I made four kills and damaged one more. Also detected four, two of which I killed. 15k profit after repair and ammo resupply.

Is it hilarious or ridiculous that one of the most expensive items of equipment in the entire inventory is a pair of binoculars?

It's because of the bribes for the logistics people so that your entirely expendable crew can get issued one.

Supply and demand perhaps?

I think it was in von Luck's memoir that he mentioned capturing a bunch of British and loading their equipment onto the deck of his tank. They gave a lift to some infantry, and then stopped to sort through their haul. His crew was quite annoyed that all the field glasses were gone.

Before, from time to time, tanks close to me would lose texture and every polygon woudl be a mess of stretched static. Annoying but not too much of an issue.

Since 8.2, the effect is now permanent and expands to everything on the map besides the terrain, making targeting and navigation impossible near any sort of objects (houses, foliage, etc.). I've tried restarting, fiddling with the graphics settings, and searching on google. Anyone have a tip on this or should I register on the WoT forum to ask about it?

Uh-oh. Now I'm nervous about 8.2...
Darth Wong wrote:Is it hilarious or ridiculous that one of the most expensive items of equipment in the entire inventory is a pair of binoculars?
Unless I'm mistaken, we ARE talking one of these. It's a pretty refined piece of optics, not just a glorified magnifying glass.

It'd probably be cheaper if it wasn't dismountable. Dismountable means you only ever need to buy at most one or two of the things, for all your tanks.

Haven't had that happen to me before. Granted, (as my last post said) I haven't gotten in to try 8.2 yet, so I can't say on that subject.

Darn edit window...

This is what it says when I try to connect:

'Failed to connect to server

Anyone else have that happen? Or should I just go to the tech support and ask for help there?

I'm still stuck at the DB and the T-150 myself. Both are proving to be really fun, despite the overall impression that they 'lol SUCKZORS!!!11!!'. Now if only I knew when the Leo 1 came in so my DB grind meant something :P

(as for my server troubles...the support site said it may be the firewall...so I'm uninstalling the game, and reinstalling it to try and fix it (as suggested)...good thing the tanks are tied to my account eh? ;) )

The Leo 1 with its glorious paper thin armor?

Also, funnily, for all my bemoaning regarding real-life German tanks, I'm doing very well on the Tiger. Got 8 kills and 1,400 XP in a match last night, where I killed an enemy Tiger from full health without taking any real damage.
