Good, because I hate the idea of combat being dominated by hoards of missiles that can only be stopped by a specific type of shield, and that's what understanding of what Honorverse combat is.
That's not how the honorverse works. Yes, they use missles in large quality. But missles are either laser heads or big fucking nukes. They don't need a special type of sheild, just one tough enough to stand up to that.

They do have rather specfic tech in the sheilding which stops anything but EM weapons and major kinetic weapons.

I'd like to see something like what we had before. It was a reasonable enough tech base and making it too complicated will do nothing but slow down and ruin the game.

Trans-Galactic or STGOD-I restart at appropriate point. Let's go with what's been tried and tested to work. In a week or two I'll have time to volunteer for start-up duties (I voted Star Wars since that was the highest available).

I suspect I'm going to make myself briefly unpopular here, but.. Well, we have seen several attempts at a new STGOD fail, and the free-for-all of the older one, OTOH, succeeded. Let's go with what succeeded.

You know, Marina, I'm mostly with you. What concerns me is powergamers, but I suppose those can be easily enough dealt with after the fact.

The other thing is that I was simply trying to work off what had been done before, because some people have already established their empires/whatever.

It might not be impossible to pull a hatchetjob at integration. I think. If an Original STGOD restart gains popular momentum, I suspect I can think through that and present some ideas for people who want to keep their empires from this one.

This is going to be interesting.

Oh ,great. Now you got me thinking of Yarmuk... Draka sado-masochism combined with on of the most crushing defeats in recent STGOD history...
Ouch...

I guess I'll scrap the Raians, and draw up a new power. Maybe one based around monsters from various RPG series.

I'm not real big on a game in which people have vast arsenals of unstoppable system killing missiles. But I'm begging to care less and less about what technolgoy gets chosen.

I have several ideas. We could skip past the Halite arc into an alternate history by using Nefirea to defeat Halite. She was, after all, the enemy of the possessed Kynes and actually defeated the being that possessed Kynes; thus it is not unreasonable to assume that she has the ability to defeat Halite if she shows up again--then leaves again--leaving a war-shattered multiverse to rebuild, but only a few decades later and with everything basically intact. (the Ramavishna could deploy 5km ships that blew up Planetoids, after all--well, okay, it was more of an energy negation field.)

So I'd be running two copies of the same character, as well as being back at the helm of (what's left) of the SCEF.

My brain hurts now.

Well, you could hand over the United Terran Republic to Kyle, since they're technically merged.

I think that we should go back to the old format of having ongoing "Diplomacy" posts continuously, and then at arranged times when we're all available, we go into flurry mode with "Winter" or "Thanksgiving" or "Summer" STGODs. I think that mode was much more long-lasting than a continuous-style STGOD. (After all, going continuous was when we started to break down and have trouble.)

I would personally like to take a part in any ressurected STGOD, so restarting an old one does not appeal to me...

I would propose a brand new STGOD, set in the shattered remenants of the last one.

Well, my goal is to integrate the various pieces into the original.

Er, by original do you mean STGOD-1, (the one with the Floaters, the OA, and the feared New Beijing Alliance,) or some ancient STGOD from before my time?

Three things.

1) What Thirdfain said, and, if so, could you bring us up to speed?

2) Would new empires be allowed, if you are indeed referring to some ancient STGOD from the distant past?

3) I don't have a firm grasp on 'Honorverse' tech. I bought the 1st book and nabbed the 2nd off Baen's Free Library(but only read part of the 2nd so far) but I heard that the entire series had been released electronically...?

The Original STGOD, of course, with the Star Kingdom of Serenity, the Boyd Collective, the United Terran Republic, the Southern California Evacuation Force, the Second Galactic Empire, the Mars Pact, the Sixth Imperium, the GPF, the notorious "Vengeful Hegemony of Romulan Wrath," the tin-pot dictatorship of the New O'Farrel Republic and the even tin-potter banana republic of ARSE (they drink beer out of those tin pots, you see). Never forget, of course, the Two Republics, the New Republic and the New Republic Military Dictatorship!

But things changed, of course! There was the Robotech Merchantile Empire and the destruction of the VHRW, there was the Vong invasion (which turned into a bit of a farce because they were as outgunned as Arabs trying to take on the USA in T-55s), then we had the Union of Soviet Socialist Star Republics, and its mortal enemy, the Domination of Draka.

Finally the entire thing got slammed by the Planetoid Invasion of Halite, Queen of the Dark Kingdom of Atlantis and former High Inquisitor of Beryl, famed enemy of the Old Queens of the Star Kingdom (Yes, the Star Kingdom is descended from Sailor Moon). Unfortunately, that plot turned into long-duration, and absences and lack of continuance and frustration staggered things to pieces.

My idea is to skip over the plot to a different ending (we took it to a very distant and far removed one for our effort at STGOD II, which still exists, sort of, at ASVS these days), and find ways to integrate some of your nations--except further along in their history so they can stand up to the lunatic exigencies of the STGOD powers. On the plus side, after this war all of them will be hit hard, and several of the greatest were outright destroyed, so more opportunities will be had--especially when you can get your hands on lots of cheap military surplus.

(A T-55 in the STGOD would be, say, an Imperial Star Destroyer.)

I think I will pull the Three Suns Commonwealth out, then- my personal attempt to create a nation whose entire language consists of a horrific motley of french, english, and japanese.

It's that, or I use the Floaters again, and frankly I am tired of those asteroid monkeys.

Honorverse tech basically has fusion powerplants, nuke/laser weaponry, and extremely advanced gravitational manipulation tech.

Oh. I forgot the Lost. They showed up around the time of the VHRW downfall and started absorbing things. They eventually became a nominal Communist satellite state, before being attacked by large Zerg hordes and having to flee to extra-galactic holdings near the end of the STGOD.

There was also the AYC, which were the people who fled here and the Zerg pursued, and were eventually largely overrun by them IIRC.

I'll always remember one time that the USSSR brought in a force and engaged a Zerg horde with standoff missiles over the Lost's homeworld of New Corellia--that was sort of sad for the Zerg, but there's just so bloody many of them.

Anyway, there's undoubtably more powers I've forgotten, but it's all in the Nomocanon.

I'd be willing to try this if I don't have to laboriously list out exact power levels for weapons, etc.
