I actually thought the first game had a pretty sound examination of ideas of faith and freedom. And not 'whee Leonardo ROFFLE' like the later games.

I thought of Assassin's Creed 2 as being a revenge plot, but I can't say why they went in that direction. Initially I thought that was a great hook to make me like the character of Ezio because Altair seemed like such a no-nonsense character (at this point I'd played all of fifteen minutes of the first Assassin's Creed).

So, Ubi Soft has done a lot of showing off AssCreed III at E3:

I have to say, the naval battle minigame looks freaking amazing, way better than the tower defense crap in the last one.

Is anyone but me a bit more interested in Liberation more than III?

It looks pretty good and all, but it's on a system I neither own nor plan to own any time soon. In fact, I only know one person who has one.

The ships are a bit too zippy though, like the entire battle's being fought on crack.

No one plays video games to be bored.

I'd rather it was too fast than too slow. It brings back memories of the Sea Dogs games though.

Yeah, I watched that. I haven't played anything since the first one, but I may get back in just for the naval combat. Though I got a distinct, 'Patriot the Game' feel from the first trailer. No matter what Ubisoft may say.

Well Connor had his line about "they speak of liberty...FOR WHOM!?" I can't watch the naval video since I'm at work, but can someone confirm it's Connor helping the British like I've heard?

Don't think so. He still seems to be fighting the British, but the enemy ships aren't of clear allegiance.

If the narrative is good it'll be nice and everything and if it isn't, i'll just hit the skip button on every cutscene and play what might still be a fun game. Somehow I doubt it will be blatant Patriot-aping though. Connor in that second video didn't seem too enthusiastic about dealing with the Americans either.

I hope the death monologues are still in though. :V

'Let the Patriots fight their own battles'. The main villain is a Patriot, too. If nothing else the game looks really slick. Like the way Connor moves and does things are quite fluid and impressive, and the frontier environment looks really cool.

Also that redcoat counter-countering Connor with a headbutt and then deathglaring him in that fight was kind of funny :v

Any idea who's playing Connor yet? He sounds just like Altaïr in the first AssCreed, i.e. Phillip Shahbaz.

Ubisoft has stated that Connor's voice actor is half-Native American.

The enemy ships are English, at least the second big one is that comes in after the storm begins, since one of the crewmen says "English are on us, captain!" when it appears on the horizon.

I forgot to mention earlier, I noticed that the player ship fires chain shot at the last enemy ship at about 4:08. I have to wonder if there are different selectable shot types, or if it's just automatically done when finishing off a ship you need to board.

Yay, more gameplay, this time on the Wii U instead of PS3:

The more I see footage of this game, the more I want it RIGHT GODDAMN NOW. :D

Looks pretty good. It's hard to tell exactly how well the game runs since YouTube videos are capped at 30fps, but the framerate looks a lot more stable than it did for at least the 360 incarnations of the last few games. Guess that confirms that the Wii U has a pretty good amount of graphics horsepower (recent rumours have suggested it's a custom Radeon 6770 variant with eDRAM and better power efficiency).

Ah missed that.

I'm really loving everything that I've been seeing of the game so far.

Though I'm wondering where the story is going to go, since they seem to be keeping the game in Boston and New York. I think the addition of the player controller ship will be very interesting. Battle of the Chesapeake anyone?

I'm interested in seeing more of the wildernesses traversal stuff, the canned animation at the start of a trailer with him jinking between trees was cool, but the tree tops was cool, but seemed very same-y.

So, the guards are still laughably not-dangerous, I see?

"Oy, sir, we have the guy who just murdered fifteen of ours! He's totally tied up! What do you mean we should disarm him? PREPOSTEROUS!"

Apparently they had an entire team working on the ship sailing stuff, and it's not a minigame it's a full-fledged "hop in your boat and sail where you wanna go" kind of thing.
