Visited a Dick Smith this morning and saw a bargain bin full of 360, PS3, Wii, DS and assorted other games. With a "50% off marked price" sign. Marked price in this case being the "already on sale" price for most.

Apparently many Dick Smith stores are going out of the games business. To give you an idea of what is on offer, here is what I picked up:

Saints Row 2 - $40
Alone in the Dark - $35
Force Unleashed - $35
Mass Effect -$27.50

All new too - not fucking trade ins or used.

So, if you have the chance get to your local Dick Smith and see if they are going similarly nuts.

So price match to EB and return it if it sucks (ie like 50-75% of that list).

It makes me laugh that you bought AitD though. Did the 360 version get the patch that made it not broken?

Let me know how you like SR2. I got it as a present but haven't started playing it yet. I liked the first one well enough, but I quit playing cause the plane mission (with enemy rocker launchers out the ass) kept pissing me off. :P

Dude, SR2 rules. Don't wait for ANDO to tell you that. I don't remember any GTA-style super-frustrating missions either, and it's fun to just totally ignore the story and do other stuff for hours and hours.

The only super frustrating thing I ran into was the Insurance Fraud side mission... But I haven't tried the two or three tricks I've seen about it since I last tried it...

It's basically GTA done by a competent company. My only complaint is that you can't really customize your gang. It's all purple all the time. :P (Oh, and that you're just slightly less flammable than napalm...)

That's different though; you can just walk away. I also suck shit at insurance fraud. :) It's not like in GTA where you MUST do a mission to progress and it's horrible.

Man, insurance fraud is awesome. Throw yourself off a bridge onto the freeway and you'll get a fucking shitload of money.

Yeah, highway's supposed to be one of the ways. And the other is setting up a roadblock to trap cars, and then adrinaline surf your way to ultimate victory...

Roadblock is too complicated. Freeway always has lots of cars moving at high speed and the bridge lets you start off with an impressive score from the air bonus and the likelihood that you'll probably get nailed by something almost immediately.

I fucking love Saints Row 2. I'm yet to even try anything else.

Here's a question - how did your gang look? I'm currently running with the "Body Guards", but they look a little ridiculous. I had the 80's crew for a while and am tempted to go with the Ninja look just for the hell of it, but I'm still not really sure.

They always look stupid, I think that's the point. You unlock more as you play through but you never any real control. The 'customise your gang's look' thing was just bullshit. :)

It is fun however to be getting a fight with some punks on the edge of your territory and then suddenly have 3 SUVs full of SWAT looking guys roll up and start unloading AKs into some hapless fools.

The SWAT look also blends with my standard outfit of a ridiculously Miami Vice - esque charcol grey suit w/purple silk shirt.

I am planning on getting the Hoplite Helmet and Sandals and then going all SPARTA!!!! for a few of the missions

SR2: Too bad the PC port sucks donkey balls. I've heard devs have been releasing patches (now working on 1.10), does anyone know do they fix the problems? (mainly performance).

I loved the Cops style side missions in SR2.

"There are pirates fighting ninjas"

And using a chainsaw to put down a riot, that is just too warped.

So what does your guy look like, I haven't played it for a while, but if I remember rightly he's white, and sounds like a cockney football hooligan. :)

GTA 4 may be technically better, but SR2 is just so much fun and doesn't even attempt to take itself too seriously.

By the way, if you buy all the shops of a particular chain, your image will appear on advertising billboards.

OK, my guy is white and definitely has the brit-voice.

And running around wearing nothing but sandals and the hoplite helmet doing random missions had my wife cracking up at the ridiculousness of it. Especially during cutscenes when everyone is acting as if this is perfectly normal.

And I too am enjoying this way more than GTA4. GTA4 is technically more proficient and has some stuff in it that I like a lot more, but damnit it just isn't fun like this is.

Have you tried the streaking and flashing sub missions yet?

Done some streaking but haven't gotten the flashers coat yet.

And MANG is the Demo Derby fucking easy. I'm currently trying to top out Barrio Insurance Fraud to get unlimited sprint and a few other activities as well to get some unlocks so I don't have to worry about as much stuff in the story missions.

Who needs sprint? Do Fuzz, get unlimited bullets, game is a cakewalk. Most of the side stuff is way easier in coop too, like the drug delivery shit.

The one that bugs me is the Escort missions, I'll swear those press vans handle far too bloody well. In SR1, it used to be easy, lure them onto the airport runway and just keep ahead of them, but not now.

Well, that's where you get to the shaky Saint's level design - with many of the side-things, some areas are just plain easier than others. The Escort stuff is pretty easy out in the open or at the university where there's plenty of not-road drivable area to reduce the constant spawning roadblocks.
