2006 - what are you looking forward to?

Post by weemadando »

For radio this week, I want to get an impression of what people are really looking forward to this year in geek-dom. Be it new hardware or software, new editions of old games, codex/book releases, TV, movies, whatever...

What are YOU looking forward to?

There's apparently a HoI2 expansion with neat things like espionage. That's about it for me.

If Dragon Age comes out, then that game. I'm also looking forward to Neverwinter Nights II, dual-core laptops, and perpendicular hard drives.

The PS3 and hopefully GTA4. What can I say, I'm a hopeless GTA fanwhore. :D

Star Wars: Empire at War. Yes, I know it has mixed reactions on here, but it looks like fun for me.

And...that's about it. I don't really know enough about what all is coming out.

I'm looking forward to a new computer which won't explode every time I try to play any game made in the last 3 years, regardless of whether I meet the minimum (or even the recommended!) requirements.

Oh, and an Xbox360, Empire at War, and that Half Life 2 expansion, among way too many other things.

HoI 2: Doomsday
Medieval Total War II if it comes in 2006 (I forget)
Spore if it comes in 2006 (unlikely)

probably a Nintendo Revolution and/or a 360 eventually, depending upon if they actually get some good games out for the latter (and the former, too, I guess).

One Word: Oblivion (The Elder Scrolls IV, that is). No doubt this game will devour what little spare time I have left.

Other games: Titan Quest, HL2: Aftermath, Gothic 3, and Spellforce 2.

Movies: X-Men 3, Pirates of the Carribean 2, Mission: Impossible 3, and Miami Vice.

Music: The new albums from Slayer, Mastodon, Amorphis, Norther, Kalmah, Tool, In Flames, Blind Guardian, Unearth, Mayhem, and Shadows Fall.

2006 is looking to be a truly great year for gaming, my watch list looks like this:

PC:
Elder Scrolls: Oblivion
Space Empires 5
Dominions 3
Gothic 3
Armed Assault
Sword of the Stars
Sins of the Solar Empire
The Witcher
Neverwinter Nights 2
Bioshock
Godfather
Call of Cthulu: DCOTE
Huxley

X360 (depending on how compelling these games are, I might pick up the console this year):
Mass Effect
Saint's Row
Gears of War

Now I just have to win the lotto so I can quit my job to have time to play all of these games!

Company of Heroes
SPORE
Caesar IV
Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords
Space Empires V
Supreme Commander

NeverWinterNights2

My list pretty much all PC stuff.

PC Hardware:
Nvidia's G80. Should be out in August

PC Games:
RPGs:
Elder Scrolls: Oblivion
Neverwinter Nights 2
The Witcher
Gothic 3
Dragon Age (if it comes out this year)

FPS:
UT2k7
ET: Quake Wars
Armed Assault

RTS:
Supreme Commander
Medieval Totar War II (again, if it comes out).

GameCube:
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Other:
HD Dual Tuner TiVO (finally, I can get rid of my damn Comcast box - the TiVO just needs a CableCard from Comcast to decode the channels).
SED TVs (I probably won't get one, but the technology is appealing).
Dual format Blu-ray/HD DVD players (not getting on this year, but I want to see how the perform)
Artillery. Its what's for dinner.

Gaming wise, Oblivion, GalCiv II, the HoI2 expansion, Heroes 5, and a couple of the other games mentioned here. Really hoping that NWN2 turns out to have a singleplayer campaign more in line with what the Baldurs gate (and other games of the engine) gave us rather then the multiplayer demo that pretended to be the singleplayer campaign of NWN.

Movies, meh, don't really follow their development much, but maybe the sequel to Underworld? Kate in leather is always nice to look at.

EDIT: Oh yeah, Vista finaly being released will be nice, despite a lot of the tech being backported or delayed. I'm looking foward to some of the UI enhancements (plus it will finaly give my graphics card something to do other than playing games).

Nintendo Revolution
Online Super Smash Bros
Zelda: Twilight Princess
Metroid Prime Hunters
Kingdom Hearts 2
Intel Mac Mini
PS3
DSLinux

Blu-ray and HD-DVD (similar to Arrow above- I have no intention of buying either in 2006 but I am very curious to see how the format wars play out).

Unfortunately, Spider-Man 3 is still scheduled for 2007.
