MSN Explorer internal error

Post by beyond hope »

If MSN Explorer is popping up the "internal error" dialogue box after you've been online for a few minutes and your IE homepage has been reset to About:blank, you probably have the same variant of CoolWebSearch that I had to get rid of on my dad's computer. Neither Spybot, Ad-aware, or CWShredder will dig out the hidden dll file, so the infestation will pop back up in a day or two. Follow the instructions here to be rid of it. The links to Find'n'Fix in the forum page are broken: you'll need to go here to get it. It didn't work exactly the way the instructions in the forum said, either: I didn't see the "moveit.bat" file that the instructions mention, but I was able to get rid of the dll by cutting and pasting it to the junkxxx directory and continuing with the directions from there. After that, it's just a matter of using Ad-aware or Spybot to clean up the remnants.

Note that Find'n'Fix is for Win2k/XP only.
