Linky.

Uh, I don't really know what to say. If this is true the Bush administration is even loonier then I had previously though.

They are. Rest assured, they are...

This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. They want to take on the entire telecommunications AND entertainment industries in an election year? There's chaos on the ground in Iraq, the defecit is out of control, they've been thoroughly discredited on the war and embarassed in front of the 911 commission, the military is overstretched, unemployment is still up, white collar outsourcing is moving at a brisk clip, gas prices are up, property taxes are up, the states can barely keep their heads above water, and their idea of winning the independent voter is making an undisguised attempt to eliminate pornography? Jesus fucking Christ.

so instead of actually bothering to attack something that's really harming the country or striving to improve impoverished nations, they want to make war on pr0n? fucking douchebags. they may as well declare prohibition first. excessive drinking hurts more people than pornography does.

They already have. Marijuana arrests are at all time highs. And frankly, if they thought they could get away with banning alcohol, they would--Ashcroft and his ilk are the direct ideaological descendants of the hatchet faced old bitches who'd walk into saloons and smash whiskey bottles.

Why don't they just declare America a Christian Theocracy and the Constitution forfeit while they're at it? I seriously wonder about the viability of this country...

I congratulate this courageous move on the part of those protecting me from myself.
I can think of no more fitting use of tax dollars than to openly and slavishly emulate the practices of the Holy Reagan Administration in such a productive way.

Bravo! I have confidence those WMDs will be found, but until then, keep thinking of the children!

As was stated in the article, "Good luck turning that clock back." Cable and satellite providers rake in quite a bit of cash from adult entertainment subscriptions, and they're not going to be very happy if the government starts breathing down their necks to cut it off. To top it off, consenting, legal porn has been upheld in court, case-after-case, since the 70's. This seems like yet more political posturing by the Bush administration to make sure its major voting bloc gets its ass in the voting booths in November.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and legitimate porn itself is a multi-billion dollar industry. That kind of money will buy a lot of votes in Congress.

I saw that when I RTFA. I hope they push this angle enough that it pisses EVERY OTHER voting bloc off enough that Shrubby gets his Fundy Hitleresque power-abusing Constitution-shredding ANTI-AMERICAN ass handed to him in Nov...

What bothers me about these fuckers when they complain about porn, shock jocks, music, etc they NEVRE EVER fucking address the issue of the overwhelming popularity of these mediums. They NEVER fucking say Howard is one of the top rated jocks in this country, Porn is a BILLION Dollar industry in this country.

They act as if porn is this illicit cottage industry propped up by coked up, biker gang leather types who prey on children and ply their illicit lusts on poor unsuspecting coeds.

It is a fucking disgusting double standard where they try to impose the morality of a shrill shrieking minority on an obvious vast majority.

Instead of wondering where my next load will splatter why don't you fucking focus on getting people JOBS and saving soldiers' LIVES. Funny that - the party of less government wants to invade my private life. Fuckers. :finger:

It's technically a slippery slope, but if somebody told me that in his heart of hearts, John Ashcroft would like to outlaw all non-marital, non-heterosexual, non-vaginal sex, and create whatever government institutions were necessary to enforce those laws, I wouldn't be surprised.
