Police activities in Iraq

Post by Justin »

Here's some news you won't find in the media. :D
In Sulaymaniah, Coalition Forces recently confiscated more than 400 vehicles that were stolen from Kirkuk. Coalition Forces are preparing to return all but military vehicles to Kirkuk. Also in Sulaymaniyah, local Kurdish security elements detained four Iranian nationals who possessed five stolen antiques thought to be from Baghdad museums. A U.S. relic team in Baghdad will coordinate the proper disposition of these items.

The Governance Support Team opened the first police station in An Najaf. Iraqi and U.S. military police will jointly operate it.

Third Armored Cavalry Regiment soldiers raided a site near Al Fallujah this morning that was thought to be hiding a key instigator of violence against Coalition Forces. They detained 17 people for questioning.

Two gunmen near Basrah fired upon a UK patrol early this morning. They detained one, while the one person they shot escaped in a taxi. They confiscated two rifles.

Eighteen Iraqi police stations in Baghdad are now operating 24 hours a day. Twenty-three out of 42 former Iraqi Police Force (IPF) police stations that have been out of service are scheduled to reopen by June 30. Additionally, 7,297 out of the original 8,205 IPF have reported back to work.

A 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division scout element discovered a cache of various types of surface-to-air missiles last night near a rural area just north of Baghdad. They recovered some of the missiles, but the rest will be recovered or destroyed in the near future.

Police Activity in the Last 24 Hours:

Coalition Forces conducted 30 raids and 1,984 patrols throughout Iraq. Of those patrols, 146 were conducted with Iraqi police. They also detained or arrested 150 individuals. Highlights of police activities include:

A joint patrol of soldiers from the 549th Military Police Company and Iraqi police rendered first aid, Saturday, in Baghdad to an Iraqi man who had been shot in the foot. A troop from the Second Armored Combat Regiment arrived, continued medical treatment and took the man to a hospital. The joint patrol searched the area and found two AK-47 rifles, varying amounts of several different types of small arms ammunition, small arms magazines and a bag of miscellaneous weapons parts.

Soldiers from the 615th Military Police Company subdued an individual who attacked one of their officers with a knife, Saturday, in Baghdad. The soldiers turned the assailant over to Iraqi police. When soldiers stopped the individual at a checkpoint, he began making statements about going to Saddam's home and killing him. He then became angry and tried to stab an officer. No soldiers were injured, and the Iraqi police are holding the man while they investigate the incident.

The 18th Military Police Brigade held a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Baghdad, May 21, for a jail that will be used as a civilian confinement facility. The facility will begin accepting prisoners on May 25. The IPF will run the jail with oversight by U.S. military police to ensure segregation of enemy prisoners of war (EPWs) from criminals.

Baghdad: Coalition Forces conducted 741 patrols, 22 of which were conducted jointly with Iraqi police. They arrested or detained 84 individuals for various crimes, including carjacking, aggravated assault, kidnapping, looting, weapons and narcotics possession.

Tikrit: Coalition Forces conducted one raid and 85 patrols. Two of the patrols were conducted jointly with Iraqi police. They made 17 arrests for looting and other crimes.

Mosul: Coalition Forces conducted three raids and 297 patrols. Of those patrols, 56 were conducted with Iraqi police. They made two arrests for various crimes.
Well it's a start. Just remember, it took years to rebuild Japan and Germany.

I got the the news from Central Command and its dated May 24.

Thats the kind of stuff the media uses as 30 second filler as needed.
