The invasion of Iraq seems to have done a good job at driving the stock market up and oil prices down. Once that slows down we can attack Brunei and Saudi Arabia... The British might not like the former being invaded however.
I'd like to see Bush justify those invasions to the anti-war group who thinks he's already just out to get oil.
Saudi Arabia supports terror, Brunei is an evil dictatorship. Anyway, the anti war groups already are screaming that Iraq is all about oil. So we might as well go out and do just that.

Oh kiss off. I'm not getting into the Israel / Palestine thing. That's not the point of the conversation.

Sheesh. I get no love...

Oh come off it. I know it's difficult, but at least TRY to treat my arguments as serious. I'd do the same for you.

Wealthy people will get pissed off?? They probably should be; "left of Lenin" suggests you think that the money never belonged to them in the first place, but to the state.
First of all, my Location is a paraphrase of a quote taken from my father, who bitterly opposes my liberalism.

That being said, I don't believe that the money belongs to the state. It belongs to the people, but it should be distributed more evenly with basic humanistic desires in mind. So I totally support the implementation of social programs, or at least some of them. I believe Welfare, for example, is just a way for the wealthy ruling class to make poverty seem less abrasive, and to give that ruling class a foothold with which to give credit to the statement that "we politicians CARE about social welfare." If that were the case, then healthcare would be socialized, as would transportation.

I suppose my Location should read, "just right of Communism," eh?

I would. But you just went on a vague alarmist spiel.

If you'd said "Shrubby's an asstard and refuses to take care of this this and this, and he does this, and when the war goes over people will the result of that, and so and so will happen and he'll hopefully get the boot."

But I didn't see any claim that something Bush is going to do now is going to fuck us up then and why. If you said we need X dollars for this, and we already have Y deficit, so a Z tax cut is going to kill us, then that would've been different.

It belongs to the people

If I earned it, the money belongs to me, and me alone, not to " the people."

::Nods:: Ok. I see where you're coming from now.

<Insert schpiel about tax cuts for the rich here>
<Insert schpiel about the dealing with a $2.56 trillion defeceit by spending more money here>
<Insert schpiel about ignoring the voices of 30% of the country who spoke against war here>
<Insert schpiel about giving Iraqi oil contracts to domestic oil companies in anticipation of US victory in Iraq here>
<Insert schpiel about lack of initiative in social reform to aid the War on Crime>
<Insert schpiel about trying to federalize anti-abortion law>

I've plum run outta schpiels! Next time I'll insert a tirade or two, maybe a tangent.

That's what I meant, actually. I should have said, "the people who earned it." My bad.

It is. But he came out and specifically said that he wouldn't listen to protestors. He wouldn't even look their way. He never said anything to calm their fury, which only made them more angry. He never held a war debate with anyone who was opposed to the war. That might have been a smarter route to take than to simply say to almost a third of the country, "Nyah nyah, I can't hear you!"

Since when have U.S. Presidents sat down on TV and had war debates?

It was just a suggestion. Bushy could have been the first. ::Shrugs:: Would have provided him a good opportunity to go point/counterpoint with a level-tempered to sort out specifics. I think the nation (world?) might have benefited greatly from that.

...Assuming, of course, that Bush learned enough in Yale and Harvard about rhetoric to hold a viable public debate...

Probably not--at least not from what I saw during the presidential debates. Either one of those clowns would have gotten their asses handed to them by a halfway competent high school debate team (I say this as a former member of a halfway competent high school debate team--made it to the New Jersey state quarterfinals and lost by one point).

The only one who was impressive in the debates was Dick Cheney, who quite frankly wiped the floor with Joe Lieberman during the vice-Presidential debate.
