Edit Function

Post by Nathan F »

I have noticed that the edit function has been taken out.

Is there any way that it can be put back in, but be disable after like five minutes of posting?

The function at SCN is where, after 60 minutes of posting, only us mods can edit postings.

It is annoying, but it is necessary. Someone may say something and then attempt to withdrawl what they said after saying it when confronted by it.

People already have. Therefor it was decided that the edit function would be locked.

Is there no way to just have a time limit here?

As I said, a short limit of, say, 5 minutes, would keep someone from withdrawing it just to say they didn't say it when confronted by it.

I agree, that practise is a dirty and demeaning tactic.

There is a mod which you can install in order to do this, but I was reluctant to do it because it's quite complicated to install and whenever you modify the board software in any significant way, you run the risk of compromising the security of the code.

I see no reason why a magic time limit would solve anything.

I would like to have at least a temporary edit function, so I can go back and edit any glaring format errors and grammatical errors, but actual content for messages I wouldn't want to edit. If I post something stupid, then hell, I post something stupid. There are worse things in life.

I find it most annoying because I will post something, and then get to looking, and see a word or two that I forgot, reach up to hit the edit button, and, GAH, it isn't THERE! AAAHHH!!!

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, there IS the "preview" function, which not only allows you to see your own post ahead of time but also updates the "topic review" at the bottom of the post screen to show if you if anyone else has posted while you were composing your message.

I think the only times I've edited posts are to correct spelling mistakes that alter perception of the point or when I have made a mistake in calcs or similar.

Editing posts to win an arguement is low. And I was brought up on ASVS where you can't edit, and the blows are somewhere around the kneecaps with heavy bats.

I suppose the Preview function would have to do, but I will say that in the heat of battle sometimes it becomes too tempting to simply finish typing and hit the "submit" button....

Every so often, my preview button acts as a post. Must be this darn Internet Explorer...

I only edit to add something I forgot to say in. Either way, it's been abused to many fucking times. This is the only thing I remember from elementary school that actually happens in the real world. One person can ruin it for everyone. So while we have fucktards abusing the edit button, those that use it for the powers of good are punished the most. Oh well, deal with it. I like my imperfections anyways. If you can't say something and either back it up, or admit your wrong, then think twice about your post.

Doesn't it just suck when you try to make a joke and it falls flat?
