Still, what we're doing isn't anything near as bad as the Nazis. Compating our troops and their supporters to them is like comparing Stalin to, uh, someone who only killed one person.

That is true. But the surge of nationlism, and the silencing of dissenters is rather similar. We have not eached the levels of the NAZI regime, but bush is using the same methods hitler did to get public support. And the security mesures...well lets not gointo that. It isnt as if we are being arrested for dissent. Not like WW1 america or anything.

You know, I keep hearing this same old BULSHIT line, about how "anti war sentiments are being repressed".

Then why are we hearing so goddamed much of it?

For something that is so in your face, loud, and obnoxious, it sure doesn't look "repressed, censored, ect.." to me.

Why must every critisism of the anti war crowd be first couched in the disclaimor that, "of coarse these people have a right to there opinion"?

I am NOT the government. Me, telling thee, to shut the fuck up, is in NO WAY an infrigement on your civil rights. To imply so seems a blatant implied LIE, or smear. I can't shut you up, without going to jail!
I just wish I could.
I can't put you in jail, take your property, or have you executed. All I CAN do, is laugh, curse, cheer, or make fun of them.
At what point, did ANYONE have a "right" say their opinion, without comment?
So why does this "you have a right to your opinion" have to be mentioned?
I'll tell you why. PC BULLSHIT!
God forbid, you get the impression I think you are a waste of air, lest your "feelings" be hurt.
Hmmmmmm.

The obvious difference between Nazi Germany and USA, being, you may FEEL you are being persecuted for having an unpopular viewpoint, but where are the beatings, and killings, that were oh so common in the early years of the Nazi party? You on the left haven't experienced TRUE organised government persecution, in the USA, since the civilrights era!
I don't mean blacklisting, I mean broken bones, bullet holes, and lynching. This has not happened since the 50's. NONE of the lynching or shooting was government sponsored, it was by KKK thugs, and their ilk.
15 YEARS before I was BORN!

The Nazis were thugs, and from the very beginning, used violence as a tool of intimidation, against their political enemies.Hell, they used it to win PRIMARY elections for their candidate, to get ON the ballot to begin with.

WHERE is this happening?
Hmmmmmm.

Oh, but why not? I want to watch the right-wingers squirm for once, knowing that they have to deal with a president who not only is unapologetically and loudly liberal, but is well-respected and has a nigh-unimpeachable character. ;)

Plus, he'll be a ZOMBIE! If somebody messes with the US, he'll just eat their brains!

Hmm, does anybody know why Rall's depicting Bush as an old Jewish characteture?

Or am I reading too much into the scribblings of a madman?

Unfortunately, such characters are not to be found in politics. :)

The basic fact is that America is starting to get a nationalistic attitude very similar to what was prevalent in Nazi Germany. Many pro-war Americans think that, since the administration has decided to go to war (ignoring monstrous protests), that it is, by default, the right thing to do, because this is America, and America can do no wrong because we only fight just wars. Whether you like it or not, assloads of Americans have the "America is a Christian nation, therefore America is righteous" idea ingrained in their heads.

That's where this whole attitude of "If you don't like it, leave" comes from. Anyone who seeks change from the current system is labeled an anti-American, because he is going against what the American government is doing. This kind of circular logic is exactly how Nazi Germany got started. The parallels are simply undeniable.

Are our ideals more defensible morally than Nazi Germany's? Of course. The Nazi's advocated mass slaughter and subjugation of any country that didn't embrace their ideals ... well, actually any country that wasn't Germany. We're trying to spread democracy and give it to a country (formerly) under the control of a ruthless dictator. This isn't exactly bad, but we are forcing our will upon others, regardless of how you look at the situation. Seeing as how Bush explicitly stated that protests would not sway him, he paints himself out to be a dictator who ignores the protests of his people.

Actually, liberals tend to slap the brand "fascist" on just about everyone in the media right of Al Franken. I actually read the CPUSA web page from time to time, just to find out who they're proud of and who they hate.

Do they actually need to bring him back from the dead to have him elected?
Considering some of the silliness that regularly occurs in elections, his nomination wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Ironically, "fascist" is a term often given to economic conservatives whose beliefs in that area do not even remotely resemble the hardcore socialism of the Nazi regime. Makes about as much sense to me as it does to you.
