Magnitude 5.2 quake shakes southern Vic

A magnitude 5.2 earthquake has shaken parts of southern Victoria this evening.

The epicentre was about 120 kilometres south-east of Melbourne, near the towns of Trafalgar and Moe.

The US Geological Survey said the quake struck at 8:53pm (AEST).

Victoria Police say they have received a number of calls in relation to the tremor.

They say they do not have any reports of major damage.

Some Melbourne residents have reported on Twitter that they saw windows shaking during the tremor.

One resident, Grant, says his apartment shook.

"My apartment complex rattled for 10 seconds, with the motion not ceasing for another minute," he said.

"It was confusing, I have never experienced an earthquake. I wasn't sure how to react.

"It felt like an off-putting momentum, as if the building was facing some sort of powerful wind."

I felt it when I was in the shower. I actually thought it was a housemate stomping up the stairs. Glad I survived.
