Apparently "no one" has seen or heard from Zimmerman in several days. I wonder where he is because I can not imagine that anyone would be THAT stupid to just runaway in the middle of something like this.

Requesting police protection likely means protective custody and the last thing I would want were I Zimmerman would be the cops holding me in any way shape or form even if it's called protective custody.

He'd be put in a police lockup most likely IE the media would report he had been put in jail which he would likely be permanent considering this is a political as well as legal case, the instant he's put in a prison for any reason he's likely to stay there.

I don't think they have enough evidence for second degree murder. It's almost certainly going to be manslaughter. There may even be an alternative charge of reckless endangerment, or criminal incitement or some other kind of low-order felony, if the prosecutor thinks Martin really did return and attack him, but that his initial pursuit nonetheless removed his right to completely non-culpable self-defence under the stand your ground law. All you can really say at this point is that it's going to be some kind of serious felony with prison time of between 5 - 25 years depending on the exact charge.
