Famous Thread nominations!

Post by AdmiralKanos »

As the thread title says, folks. If you think there are some threads which are particularly noteworthy, going right back to the origin of the board 5 years ago, then nominate them here.

Baghdad Tiger. If there's no other thread worthy of it, that one is.

The Pope John Paul death threads might also qualify.

Could you define "Famous" (As in good, interesting, well known, notorious...)?
The Darkstar threads are certainly very IN-Famous, for example, as would some of the more amusing Parting shots threads (Ah, Jake and his gospel)...

The Great Mess Prank of 2k7 definitely needs to be here, along with 1-2 of the threads that foreshadowed it (The "general Pace hates homosexuals" one mayhap?).

"Famous" would simply mean any thread you either want to reference in future debates or which we think is just so funny or cool that we want to make sure it's always prominent and easily located.

Are those to be limited to N&P, or are threads from all forums eligible?

Have a very nice day.

A quick, easy reference material would be the Encyclopedia Moronica.

It was before my time, but was there an original, single thread devoted to the unfolding attack on 9/11 as it happened? That would certainly be worth examining.

Katrina thread, too.

Oh wait, the forum was founded in 2k2. 9/11 was 2k1.

My mistake. The Madrid bombings thread also might be worth preserving.

For funny, nonsensical threads, Hamel's penis and bread one, but I think there was a far crazier thread somewhere.

From the Stardestroyer.net chronicle.

Space MinesDave (Fri Mar 12, 2004 9:10 pm -- Tue Mar 16, 2004 6:33 pm)

A newbie (Dave) poses an interesting question about the usefulness of space mines. The general consensus is that they are pretty much useless as a defensive weapon in most cases, given the vastness of space.

I have no idea how I'd find them, but those long 10 page threads of health care debates with tharkun were always quite informative.

Health Care systems Pint0 Xtreme (Fri Apr 01, 2005 1:29 pm)

A thread by Pint0 Xtreme about health care. One of the more amusing parts of it is where acording to Tharkun, Viagra commercials help save lives.

Found it: I just cut my penis on a slice of stale bread. Pure comedy gold.

I'd nominate the SDnet goes to Middle Earth thread. Fun, light, imaginative in a geeky way, with some gold in it.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Isn't that a bit egotistical.

I know I haven't been around very long, but if it's not too forward I'd like to nominate the "Godzilla versus his weight in chimps" thread, and/or the "Bowser vs Saruman" thread (in the funny category, of course).

Huh. That's less than 10 condoms per person. Though, assuming an even split between gender, that's almost 20 condoms per penis, so I certainly hope that would suffice for the three weeks they're there. -Alferd Packer

This. Something about it just screamed to me what makes this forum so wonderful: an aura of deathly seriousness about being transported to middle earth with nuclear weapons.

I don't remember who it was, but a couple of people in the thread nominated it to be "the greatest thread of all time."
