Chavez being an attention whore

CNN wrote:Chavez: U.S. planning to invade Venezuela

Friday, September 16, 2005; Posted: 11:10 p.m. EDT (03:10 GMT)

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said Friday he has documentary evidence that the United States plans to invade his country.

Chavez, interviewed on ABC's "Nightline," said the plan is called "Balboa" and involves aircraft carriers and planes. A transcript of the interview was made available by "Nightline."

He said U.S. soldiers recently went to Curacao, an island off Venezuela's northwest coast. He described as a "lie" the official U.S. explanation that they visited Curacao for rest and recreation.

"They were doing movements. They were doing maneuvers," Chavez said, speaking through a translator.

He added: "We are coming up with the counter-Balboa plan. That is to say if the government of the United States attempts to commit the foolhardy enterprise of attacking us, it would be embarked on a 100-year war. We are prepared."

Chavez has been attending the summit of world leaders at the United Nations in New York this week. On Thursday, he denounced the U.S.-led war in Iraq and told other leaders they should consider moving the U.N. headquarters out of the United States.

To prove U.S. intentions to invade Venezuela, Chavez offered to send "Nightline" host Ted Koppel maps and other documentation.

"What I can't tell you his how we got it, to protect the sources, how we got it through military intelligence," he said.

In the event of a U.S. invasion, Chavez said the United States can "just forget" about receiving any more oil from his country.

If we invaded his country, we'd get ALL the oil from Venezuela.

To comment: it's the old "blast a foreign bogey man to distract the populace from problems at home" shtick. How ironic, then that Bush is his chosen bogeyman.

We have plans out there for any contigency imaginable, including invading Venezuela. Creating them is what Unified Commands do on their days off.
The most basic assumption about the world is that it does not contradict itself.

I'd give both my legs for unrestricted access to those plans for a day. The wargamming must be insane.

Yep that's right, because we'll be piping it ourselves.

I wouldn't be surprised if those documents are printed online strategy guides for "America's Army".

And making the databases to suport them is what a certain OSINT agency does for a living (I know becuase that's what my dad does, or what he says he does atleast).

On Topic: Does this really tell us anything new? Chavez is a nut, but for right now a harmless one. That doesn't mean that we should ignore him though, as he's in our backyard.

And Saddam wasn't Bush's boogey man? Chavez has a right to be concerned about invasion.

 It seems we have a newcomer who doesn't understand sarcasm.

Sure Chavez "has a right to be concerned about an invasion". That does not mean that he is not being an attantion whore, nor that he is not using the US bogeyman to distract people form problems at home.

And to inject a dose of cold, hard reality into it, just what would we invade with?
Don't forget the Army's already occupied :P in Afganistan and Iraq.
Even if Bush wanted to invade, we couldn't do it.

Your not kidding. I've heard things... Wargames that read like Zor invented them(IE giant walking nuclear tanks appear, or all airplanes fall out of the sky. Or Zombie Hilter invades New Jersey backed up by the Nazi Radioactive Vampires)

This gives me an idea: How about we do so many 'maneuvers' and leak so much 'intel' in Chavez's direction he feels the need to completely bankrupt his country? Who needs invasion when an internal coup will do?

If Pat Roberson hadn't open his stupid yap, this nutball Chavez probably woulndt have said nothing. And move the UN out of the US, their a bunch of hardcore wankers anyway.

De-inlined the picture. It's not kiddie porn, but it shows a penis. So let's not tread that line.
