First of all, that was a horrible movie, based off of an excellent book. Secondly, no.

Mmm.. the movie had its charm.. I understand what the director was trying to do. He was trying to capture that sort of 60's-esque movie and cultural sci-fi cliche. Cute, but didn't work.. if they only had better actors though or cuter chicks in the shower. OR THE FREAKIN BODY ARMOR!!

But in all seriousness, no. You get a feeling Bush is trying to do that, have the United States wrapped up in almost a facist.. no, wrong word.. but a strongly unified hand-in hand front, and it's not working.

Not really, the idea of increased security durring a military conflict is not exactly unheard of. And it hasn't really gone as far as some would think it, let alone to the extent of Heinlen's idea of the future.

P.S. The movie sucked, it would have been ok if it wasn't suppost to be the movie of Starship Troopers.

It was also a sort of commentary on fascism in US culture. Check the dvd's audio commentary.

yeh but with the internet, you have to piss around on loads of sites trying to find what you want, as opposed to just touching the screen then an agreeable man talking to you about the bugs.

Considering we don't even have the draft, much less a stint in the armed forces as a requirement for citisenship, I'd say no.

No, America hasn't reached that point. This doesn't stop a surprisingly large number of wingnuts from running around saying that's the way it SHOULD be, however.

An all volunteer military was a major point of Starship troopers however. Though really, a lot of Western Europe still uses the draft and has for the whole century and before without turing fascist

We have a draft. We just call it "Selective Service." I doubt it'll be used, but the government can choose to require military service of any male 18 years or older.
