Herman Cain's bizarre and disturbing "9/11 Tribute" video

Post by Celador »

Yesterday, Herman Cain released a video of him singing "God Bless America" a capella to footage from the 9/11 attacks.

It's a disturbing watch, and it's hard to interpret this as anything but a floundering and increasingly irrelevant candidate doing something controversial and divisive to gain attention.

Wow, who thought that this was a good idea?

Whatever, Cain's chances for being nominated are pretty much sunk anyway, this is basically just icing on the cake.

EDIT: seems that the comment section agrees. He's getting quite a reaming in there.

Sure, but this is still behavior (or at least the kind of behavior) that I expect to continue to be extremely destructive to political dialogue over the next year. It reminds me of the Park41 controversy, which has had a lasting effect on the way the American right wing talks about Muslims (and polarization within the country with regard to the topic), despite the fact that that particular controversy has faded from public memory.

And here I thought we had moved on from republicans digging up the folks I knew to have their corpses as campaign props.

Like the Republicans would let a annoying thing like death stop them from trying to get votes.

I can't describe how much in bad taste this video is. There's sinking your election chances, and then there's this.

Very creepy. The choice of music is very at odds with what the video depicts, and what exactly is it trying to say - 'Vote Cain and you'll get another 9/11'?

It's almost as if it's...mocking the victims of 9/11. I never cared about Herman Cain, not living in America, but this is fundamentally disgusting.

Ok what I find most odd about this is the "quote" at the end.
"We must never never never never forget"
Wow four nevers! That is deep and profound right there...
Also, it says "Herman Cain: 9/11/11"

So I am assuming it means he is talking ABOUT 9/11. Cause if that is supposed to mean "he said it ON 9/11" Well thats just Bull since this came out several days ago.

The video of the attacks is bad enough, but keeping in people's terrified screams was over the top. What a moron. It's amazing how unaware some of these Republican candidates seem.

Ratings are blocked as well, probably because it was like fifteen hundred downvotes vs 300 upvotes or something like that.

This has got to be one of the most tasteless and exploitative ads in political history. Shame on you, Herman Cain. :finger:

I don't really understand a lot of the words used. Why is someone killed in a building collapse a hero? If hope is alive, hope for what? Why are people demanding that we never forget something which will be nigh impossible to avoid remembering for a century?

Alot of the people who died in the collapse were rescue workers, so I'd say they are heroes. The rest is just... Wow.
