rheonix - The issue of cohabiting siblings has been raised quite a lot in Britain. Essentially, the point here was an admittedly small number of cases, typically elderly sisters who had been living in the same house for many years - and when of them died the survivor was set to be forced to sell the house to pay inheritance tax. Of course, they should have taken steps to avoid this years before; but it's not exactly a fair situation. Note that the commitment of each of them to care for the other was not in doubt - but the law's the law, don't you know?

No, there haven't been any ad campaigns. Just a number of vulnerable octagenarian women thrown out of their homes of 40 years. Of course, they weren't members of the minority FOTM, so their welfare is unimportant.

I happen to think that this issue was an utterly stupid own goal by the UK government - the amount of money involved is trivial.

Kinnison, I am getting really tired of the way you post arguments which are torn to shreds and then ignore almost all of the rebuttals in your reply. You don't have to answer every single post made in reply to yours, but when the bulk of your argument has been attacked and you choose to answer only a minor side-issue, you are being an evasive little shit.

A contestant waxing poetic about how America is a country of choice and concluding with "but not in marriage" is more than enough to deny her the crown, imo.

FauxNews just covered this curiously enough. They specifically called it a "Smear campaign targeted against her faith for being a Christian." you just got to love it.

It's apparently a right of any god-fearing christian to pose topless in a pair of pink panties with a free boob job while talking about how immoral other people are.

Due to their tribalistic mindset, the Christian right will continue to defend her regardless of her involvement in pornography just like how they ceaselessly defended Sarah Palin's daughter. The best thing one can hope for is that this will lessen the credence other people will give to her words.

Actually, it's worse than that. Fox is just parroting what she said about how people are persecuting her for being a christian by doing this.

Even better, her statement claims the photoes were taken when she was 17 by an eeeeeeeeevil man promising to make her a supermodel when he really was a nudie mag photographer.

Which is odd because her breast implants, clearly visible in the picture, are only 6 months old.

I laughed pretty hard at this column:
Gathering Storm: Miss California Trying to Redefine Traditional Breasts for the Rest of Us

Miss California Carrie Prejean ostensibly lost the coveted first prize of the Miss USA Pageant due to an honest, but clumsily delivered, response to a question about same-sex marriage equality. Thanks, however, to the juvenile grandstanding and self-aggrandizing douchebaggery of Perez Hilton, she earned a seemingly more lustrous and lucrative crown: spokesperson for the National Organization for Marriage (NOM). NOM, of course, is the political organization made infamous by the countless parodies of its "Gathering Storm" ad, in which one desperate-for-any-work actor warned America in barely perceptible English that a "storm is coming" in the form of full civil equality for gay and lesbian Americans.

Prejean, for her part, has vowed "to do whatever it takes to protect marriage" and the newly crowned Queen of "Opposite Marriage" appears in NOM's latest ad entitled, "No Offense." She also reminded the nation at a NOM-sponsored press conference this week that her contemptibly ill-informed comments at the Miss America contest was "not about being politically correct, but about being 'Biblically correct.'"

Oops! Heaven, we have a problem.

A recent revelation -- and not of the Biblical variety -- surfaced this week that the prodigal princess had breast augmentation surgery, approved and funded by the Miss California Organization, just weeks before the Miss USA pageant. One has to wonder how the beauty queen has the credibility and moral standing to speak out against "unnatural" and "un-Biblical" marriage with the same breath that is weighted down by "unnatural" and "un-Biblical" implants filtered through $10,000 worth of "unnatural" capped teeth.

Of course, Princess Prejean has a right to her religious convictions and no one should ever lose a beauty contest over speaking those beliefs in earnest. Miss California also has the right to do whatever she chooses within the privacy of her own bra, but she doesn't have the right to redefine traditional breasts for the rest of us.

For many thousands of years, across every culture and continent, women have known traditional or "natural" breasts to be those that God -- or nature -- gave them. To think otherwise flies in the face of millennia of human history and spiritual doctrine. Prejean's Bible repeatedly reminds us we are made in God's perfect image while warning us against exchanging the "natural" use of our bodies for those deemed "unnatural." And, while one could argue the rights to privacy and personal freedom are inherent in our nation's founding democratic principles and that every American has a right to his/her own life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, organizations like NOM -- for whom she's now a spokesperson -- Focus on the Family and the Family Research Council repeatedly admonish us that life in America would be better if theology and biblical doctrine were the primary determinant of civil law and personal liberties.

With someone else footing the bill, Prejean made a choice to defy her God's perfect design and creation of her and to rebel against the intended and "natural" purpose of her mammaries: namely, the nursing of babies rather than the visual attraction sufficient enough to win a vanity contest. Moreover, if her teeth aren't capped, I'm betting they were braced; and I'd also put money down on the fact that Prejean, like all of us, has at some point performed other "unnatural" acts with her organs like chewing gum, wearing eye-glasses, enjoying a Diet Coke or two or... well you get the idea.

So, Carrie, you may find full civil equality for all Americans to be "unnatural" and not "Biblically correct," but, frankly, neither are your Jugs4Jesus and your Caps4Christ. "No Offense!"

By the way, isn't most of the audience for the Miss America contest made up of flamboyantly gay middle-aged men? She might as well have spewed her homophobic horseshit on Antique Roadshow or a Barbra Streisand concert.

Not to defend this cunt, but are we going to all of a sudden start bagging on people that pose topless and have breast implants? Last time I checked, no one here has a problem with that as it is all about personal choice, and using it now as a derogatory against her seems kinda shady.

Sure, I think it's a cheap shot to make fun of someone's appearance, but fuck it -I do it anyway! Stokely Carmichael said he believed in non-violence, so long as others were non-violent with him. I don't believe in ridiculing people for their looks, unless they make it a point to shit on others for things they can't or shouldn't do anything about (like sexual preference) or are just total fucktards, in which case they're probably too stupid to notice I'm insulting them.

She wants to deny equal rights to homosexuals based on a book of Bronze Age fairy tales written by a bunch of primitive savages who found murder preferable to anal sex. She's too stupid and bigoted to notice that according to the "morals" promoted by that book, she would at best be sold off for fewer shekels (for being used goods) and probably on the wrong end of a stoning for flouting the rules of proper conduct for a woman.

So I am indeed just and fair in my vilification of this stupid, bigoted dipshit.

Thank you Elfdart, for putting it better than I could.

My issue with the nude posing is twofold, the first is pretty much what Elfdart stated, but the my more cynical side kicks in. I wonder if she is just some huge opportunist who punted when that question got thrown at her. She is getting more media attention than Miss America, and is likely to continue to do so. Since that shot is obviously posed, I have to wonder if this is just the next step in an "instant celebutant" career. This came out just as she was no longer getting play in the news.

Every single thing has come out just as she is losing the interest of the public. I am getting the same vibe from her that I get from Octo-mom.

You're arguing a completely different point, though. No one was suggesting that siblings should be able to marry, nor that they should be able to enter into civil partnerships, merely that tax breaks covering marriage/civil partnerships should also be applied to siblings in certain cases.

It should surprise non one that the "poor sister got kicked out of her home - boo hoo" stories only showed up when gay people were allowed to enter civil partnerships. No one seemed that perturbed about siblings not having the same rights as married couples - a situation that had been in place for many years.

It's rather telling that you yourself bring this issue up in relation to gay marriage.

Not to defend Prejean, because she's a cunt, but I am curious as to why these pictures of her surfacing are so "racy" that they would disqualify her from being Miss Whatever. One of them you see some side boob, and the other I haven't seen, but from the description I read it is just her in a bra. What the fuck is so wrong with that? She deserves to be stripped of her title for being a dumb fuck, but I think it is frankly ridiculous that beauty pageant officials are so offended by pictures that hardly qualify as pornographic. Hell, I've seen these women wear racier outfits to the fucking pageant itself.

I think it's the ridiculous-ness of her pontificating upon moral issues like what constitutes 'proper' marriage, while posing for cheesecake pictures whose purpose is strictly to sexually titillate (an end not usually embraced by the 'traditionalist marriage' crowd): kind of incongruous, don't you think?

Well honestly, I don't think they are any worse than the Bikini portion of the Miss American pageant which is also designed to sexually titillate.

That's not the point: on the fundie scale even side-boob and little panties would be decried as pornographic - except that it's someone talking their line of shit, so *that* makes it okay, or at least not-worth-mentioning. That's called hypocrisy.

Second Photo May Cost Miss California

filed under: National News

LOS ANGELES, California (May 7) -- A second lingerie-modeling photo of Miss California USA Carrie Prejean has appeared after she assured pageant officials this week that the earlier shot was the only one she had appeared in.
The Web site that published the first picture published a second one Wednesday. It had already promised to "slowly roll out" more photos.

After the appearance of the first photo, the possibility that racier images could emerge prompted "closed-door meetings" Tuesday to consider stripping Prejean of her beauty queen title, pageant spokesman Ron Neal said.
Although Neal said Prejean "breached her contract" by keeping the semi-nude photo or photos a secret, the only pictures published so far appear about as revealing as the bikini Prejean wore in the pageant's swimsuit competition.
"We have been told by Carrie Prejean there are no other photos other than the one circulating in existence. She should know better than anyone," Miss California USA Director Keith Lewis said Wednesday before the latest photo was released.

Pageant officials were not immediately available for comment on the new picture.
The 21-year-old Miss USA contestant has been the center of controversy since she declared her opposition to same-sex marriage in a response to a question on the national pageant stage last month. She finished as runner-up to Miss USA.
In a statement given to CNN on Tuesday, Prejean said the photos -- and she did use the plural -- were being used in a "vicious and mean-spirited" effort to silence her for "defending traditional marriage."
While she vowed to "continue to support and defend marriage as the honorable institution it is," Prejean may be doing so without the Miss California USA title.

State pageant officials met Tuesday with lawyers and representatives of Donald Trump, who owns the international competition, to consider whether they had grounds to take the crown away from Prejean, according to Neal.
"When you compete for Miss California, you're supposed to disclose whether you posed for nude or semi-nude photos, because it's grounds for disqualification," he said.
CNN obtained a copy of the pageant contract Prejean signed last year, in which she agreed that the discovery of semi-nude photos could mean disqualification.
The first photo made public shows Prejean -- who said she was 17 at the time -- wearing pink panties and no top. She is turned away from the camera, with her arm hiding most of her breast. The second photo is essentially the same, but Prejean is looking over her opposite shoulder.
It was unclear whether pageant officials would consider that a semi-nude photo, in light of their standard requirement that contestants parade across stage wearing a bikini that arguably shows more skin.

More Stories
Ahead of the second photo being published, Nik Richie -- of TheDirty.com -- said he was upgrading his Web site's servers to handle the flood of traffic he expects will come after he posts the additional photos.
"I will slowly roll these out," Richie said.
The Web site appeared to be overwhelmed by traffic early Thursday. CNN tried to access it, but could not.
"We'll see what happens with those and we want to know who's releasing them," Neal said.
Shanna Moakler, the co-executive director of the Miss California USA organization, will meet with Tami Farrell, the runner-up for the title, "to discuss the possible next steps," Neal said.
Prejean defended the photos, which she said were taken when she was a teenager aspiring to be a Victoria's Secret model.
"I am a Christian, and I am a model," she said. "Models pose for pictures, including lingerie and swimwear photos."
She said the photos "have been released surreptitiously to a tabloid Web site that openly mocks me for my Christian faith."
"I am not perfect, and I will never claim to be," she said. "But these attacks on me and others who speak in defense of traditional marriage are intolerant and offensive. While we may not agree on every issue, we should show respect for others' opinions and not try to silence them through vicious and mean-spirited attacks."
Her publicist, Melany Ethridge, confirmed a comment she gave to celebrity Web site TMZ in which she said Prejean was 17 when she posed for the photos, hoping they would land her a modeling job.
"In her naivete, an agent convinced her to pose for this photo to submit to a lingerie company, claiming they could make her the next Victoria's Secret model," Ethridge told TMZ. "She has since learned what a lie that was, and what a mistake it was to have the photo taken."
Prejean announced last week that she would star in a new $1.5 million ad campaign supporting "opposite marriage" (marriage between a man and a woman) funded by the National Organization for Marriage.
"Marriage is good," Prejean said at a news conference announcing the ad campaign. "There is something special about unions of husband and wife. Unless we bring men and women together, children will not have mothers and fathers."
Emphasis mine

She might be stripped b/c she had to disclose the photos when she signed her contract.
