None of this surprises me, and Bush doesn't take criticism well simply because he doesn't expect it.
Either he geniunely believes he's doing a good job and people love him, or he expected that his staff would've already screened out the evil people with dissenting opinions, or maybe a combination of both.

I have this vision of him in some private room after what happened - throwing a tantrum, spewing obscenities and hurling objects around at the mere thought of some upstart embarassing him like that. While his yes men surround him and carefully reconstruct the padding of his ego till he thinks he's the world's best President once again.

He got a C average getting a fucking BA in History? Christ, what a moron.
Keep in mind, though, that when Kerry's academic record was brought up one of his professors pointed out that, due to grade inflation since that time, that C average may be half a grade level higher, today. Bush might've even been looking at a C+/B- range if he went to college and majored in history, today.

Well, his milestones in business involve driving three oil companies into failure, so that might not be the most inspiring thing to put in his biography. He did do well with his investment in the Rangers, particularly once he got the state to use eminent domain to acquire the land for their new stadium.

That's not the scary part. The scary part is that he got a C average, but only because his rich daddy paid off the University to inflate his grades....

Hell it's unlikely they would've flunked him "donations" or not. Seeing as his daddy is who he is.

We got actual evidence for that? Not that I'm doubting it, mind.

The Ivy League never flunks anyone. I see little reason to suspect that the school singled out his grades for inflation.

Bush's mindless blubbering and the sheep-like fawning over his average Joe schtick is truly bewildering. There are really people out there who admire this, in a president, in a world leader (rhetorical)?

Who is it exactly that finds it anything other than painfully unsettling and deeply disturbing that someone in such a position of power can demonstrate, time and again, gross incompetence in the most basic of communication skills, who can't string more than 4 words together in a sentence without tripping over his own feet (also rhetorical)??

Can anyone think of any reputable organization or company who would actually hire such a dim-witted boob, an individual who can't use the English language properly, either thanks to brain burnout from years of cocaine use or some other mental deficiencies, natural or otherwise (rhetoric, the 3rd)???

My observations of the Bush presidency makes me desperately want to re-think the requirements to hold the office of President beyond a 35 year-old natural-born citizen.

Bush hasn't always been such a shitty speaker - I think it was the various addictions that did it. Here's a vid of him speaking in 1994, vs. his performance in the 2004 Presidential debates.

Damn, that first clip from 1994 made me want to vote for the guy.

Of course, the second one would have made me re-think that decision, as I firmly believe that people who are not yet old enough to have their full rights as a citizen (i.e. the right to vote) should likewise not be given full adult responsibility.

Gil Hamilton wrote:Moreover, how has he been president for 6 years and not had a speech coach ring the country fried out of him. Public speaking is alot of what a President actually does, after all.
Bush has parlayed his idiotic mannerisms and the "country fried" characteristics into things that are actually appealing. His handlers probably tell him to do things like mispronounce "nuclear" just because it pisses off well-educated people and therefore makes the rural bumpkins feel well-represented and superior.

It's all to make him seem like "just one of the guys". For some reason, people think that because he fails to live up to higher standards of behavior and articulation in public, he must be concerned about the common man's problems. It's an ingenious ploy, too. He can act like just one of the guys while actually being a spoiled brat from a rich family whose only concern is helping his upper-crust buddies out at the expense of the American blue-collar workers, not to mention the middle class.

And people actually buy this shit, too. They like the fact that, if we're attacked, Bush will go off half-cocked at whatever Arabs just happen to be nearby. It makes them feel "secure".

I don't know if his verbal mis-steps are purposeful or not, but he certainly used to be a skillful (or at least competent) public speaker. This video below asserts that Bush suffers from early-onset dementia, which I don't know if I agree with, but watching how far he's fallen in 10 years, I have a hard time thinking it's all just an affectation.

Holy shit!! He actualy sounded competent ten years ago!!

Either that or he was just very familiar with the material. Federal politics is different: the issues and crises keep changing, so you can't just learn a single stand-up routine and trot it out everywhere you go. That's why Bush looks so clumsy, because that's what he does: he learns his "routine", like a stand-up comic with a poor repertoire, and he clumsily tries to shift every conversation to his routine stand-up act. He's OK once he's doing his stand-up, but he's always clumsy when he tries to find excuses to segue to it.

remember his biggest things in texas were juvenile crime, the death penalty, and abstinace only education. So he cut schools, built more prisons, and with increased police enforcement of non-violent crimes. He sounded so well while he was bankrupting his state, and destroyed it's education system....
