Gigaton Arguments pre-AOTC:ICS

Post by Lord Poe »

If anyone gets tired of the blatant lies of Trekkie asstards who proclaim that there were no arguments for turbolasers in the gigaton range until AOTC:ICS came out, here's the facts. AOTC:ICS was published in 2002. Gigaton level turbolasers were argued and proven well before that.

If they opened up with their lighter weapons, we would look at a combined firepower of 28 gigatons at the very least. So, before the Borg cube had a chance to adapt, it would be hit with enough energy to virtually vaporize it.

Everyone seems to agree that Mike was being awful generous(except for you, IXJack) to assume that the "laser cannons" mentioned were heavy turbolasers! Or you can take another interpretation and think that by "giga-tonnage range" explosions, they could have meant one that said 999.999 gigatons. That would also serve my purposes PERFECTLY!

A single HTL blast is measured in gigatons, and is NOT dependent on the target. So, while Phaser's drop their efficiency to a few megawatt laser on armor, the TL is still going strong.

Oh very nice. Not for any particular arguments, but it's nice to see that the AoTC:ICS wasn't the end all be all of that particular thought, but more of an affirmation. Something I despise of so many, that people go Dr Saxton did it as wink wink(and I don't mean RSA, he's a fucking moron) instead of taking what was established and merely laid it out.

In fact hearing an abridged version of how he did it was enough to demonstrate where and how he came up with his figures.

Intresting history there as well for the GT level firepower.

You can add this. Primitive, but it is there...

The main point being that GT, or even TT range was already there. To put it in one sentence, since Dodonna, they were there. (ST people: remember that you used to hate Dodonna before you hated Saxton)...

Wow. I'm, like, an authority, and for the unmatched power of turbolasers! I definitely wasn't trying to debunk gigatonnage figures by using KJA's Darksaber as evidence, no siree. That would certainly be embarrassing, if anyone found out...

Don't be a fucking idiot; Lord Poe is trying to debunk the widespread (and totally false) Trekkie claim that people on the SW side were not claiming GT-level figures before ICS came out.

It sure was! Funny how that was forgotten when AOTC:ICS came out! If you peruse the old ASVS archives, you'll see many of the "WHAT"S THIS 200 GIGATON SHIT IN THE ICS!!!" crowd were present in the pre-ICS days where gigaton-level firepower was regularly argued.

Yeah, I remember back when the worst idiots attacked Wong for merely putting his thoughts into a clear and accessable format on a website. Somehow that was cowardice or a dirty trick in their eyes.

Obviously. It was a joke, making fun of myself. I just found it ironic, and amusing, that he would use a quote from me that was trying to debunk gigatonnage.

I remember when they used to say "Wong is a coward because he has no feedback system on his website". Then, when I discovered free forum software and created these forums, they changed their story to "Wong is a coward because he created his own forums rather than posting on somebody else's forum where he has no admin powers."

People like this always think it's all about me when it's actually about the ideas I'm promoting, and those ideas have validity which can be determined on their own merits (assuming one is smart enough and/or well-educated enough to know how to do this: something which unfortunately cannot be said about the type of person we're talking about).

It is amusing that so many people choose to attack me personally, but never stop to wonder why it is that whenever scientists and engineers look at the material, they end up agreeing with the SW side. And whenever rabid but relatively uneducated Trektards look at it, they end up agreeing with the other side. Gee, that must be a pure coincidence ...

Don't be ridiculous, your puny post is merely a footnote to the main event that is my quote. I so rule.

ICS is what cemented the GT ranged calcs as standard rather then the assumed high-end. I can remember much higher calcs then what ICS brought about, though those were far less seriously proposed.

Yeah, and then there was the scaledown of the Death Star's main gun.
