Wiki admin nominations

Post by Darth Wong »

So far, we've got two people volunteering for the job:

Shep: apparently experienced in wiki administration, and quite knowledgeable about the subject matter.

Stark: inexperienced in wiki administration, but is interested, occupies a different timezone than Shep, and has the right curmudgeonly attitude to clamp down on spamming.

Anyone else want to throw their names in the ring?

Not suggesting myself by any means, but maybe Tribun? He seems to know his way around a Wiki and is actively working on improving the ST VS SW portion of the wiki.

On the one hand, both Shep and Stark are unsuitable for any form of power whatsoever. On the other... Wiki admins are traditionally assholes.

Wow, I'm a little surprised that I'm suggested. I never really did admin duties, instead I streamlined the contents of a Wiki and created lots of content.
So, if you think aboutit, better first judge me by what I actually did. At this Wiki below, I created roughly 2/3 of the content, along with almost all of the decoration with learning-by-doing.

I better now wait for other opinions.

I second the nomination for Tribun, and I'd like to suggest Mad or XaLev (If either wishes it), they certainly have the general experience and knowledge.
As for Shep... Gotta agree with NL on that.

I believe Shep's performance would surprise people if he were given something to be responsible for...uh, that's surprise in a good way for those too dense to take the hint.

I'll self-nominate. I'm already an admin at HeroesWiki.

I'm not all that experienced with some of the technical issues like setting up templates and the like, though.

I'll second Ted C.

Xalev would be a good choice as well, if he wants it.

I fully support Stark. Spammers will definately suffer under him, and he has the right level of maturity to avoid being an ass.

Having casually watched Shep handle the Draka Fic stuff with maturity and efficiency over in Fanfic I can honestly support him for the Admin position and Stark as well since he's been by far one of the most passionate about this from the start and I believe between those two we can curtail some of the sheer lameness being generated by some of the posters creating articles in the Wiki, Exhibit fucking A being the Death entry. Kill it. please.

I agree; I'm leaning toward Shep as one of the admins, although I'm still trying to figure out how many admins we should have. It should be noted that I would actually prefer to avoid crossovers between the admin staff here and the admin staff on the wiki, since people only have so much attention they can pay to any given volunteer position.

I'd go with honestly a combination of Ted C, Shep, and Stark. It provides tie breaker...but more importantly a core of intelligent yet ruthless admins. All three have seen more material then most of the contributors and are not liable to go fanboy on it.

Something a Wiki needs.

While I've been nominated myself, I've seen Tribun, Dave and Xalev contribute in a serious and constructive way over the last few days. I'm not sure if that makes them admin-material, or just good contributors, though.

Start small, and add admins as needed.

I'll just say that while I did suggest myself as a possible admin in the other thread, odds are that the line-ups others have suggested will do a better job, as they have equal or better knowledge of the Wiki software than myself, and better knowledge of the subject matter.

If help is still needed, I'd be willing to toss my name into the hat. I can see a number of areas that the wiki could stand improvement in.

Stark would be a good choice. I say this despite (or perhaps because) of the fact that he has consistently insulted my submissions as being ill-researched.

That said, I'd be damned if Tribun didn't get a position given the sheer quantity of material he's put in (indicative of commitment).

So those would be my 'in favor ofs'

Oh yeah, Tribun is definitely a potential candidate. But keep in mind that a large part of an admin's job is actually crushing spammers and vandals, not just contributing worthwhile material. A user can be very valued and worthwhile for his contributions without necessarily being an admin.

I'd be more concerned about mindless speculation that doesn't add anything than vandalism, though that might fall under spamming. The wiki probably doesn't need to be clogged up by endless hypotheticals of what might happen or what could happen when there's no evidence to support it whatsoever.

Indeed. Worthless, poorly-researched, off-the-cuff, half-assed entries should be ruthlessly oppressed.
