Oh dear lord, their pitch is so cliche fill its in danger of collapsing under its own weight. Like the O'Neill\Kirk pastiche they have for a captain, the fact that they look down on the Vulcan engineer for not being "imaginative", River Tam as the helmsman, and the girl who develops strange powers!

That too. I think it would take an exceptional script and pitch to get this made. At least RDM had the benefit of time on Trek before he managed to get neo-BSG off the ground, note that Richard Hatch didn't seem to have much luck.
True. And unlike this guy, who seems to have delusions of grandeur, RDM actually had experience in the biz, and had an inside track at Sci-fi, and a solid script/concept, which is what got neo-BSG of the ground.

Uh... where exactly? What author? Which book? What page? Where's he pointing to? What repetition in the EU? Where's that? Anyone want to lend me a hand at this? What's he getting at? What's he talking about?

Obviously he's talking about Karen Traviss' bullshit GAR troop numbers. Numbers so stupid they refute themselves.

Hmm...maybe Darth Wong should split off this discussion from this thread and move it to the trek forum.

But, yeah, like most of these wanna-be projects, they think they're going to save the franchise with their brilliant and original script, when in fact it's just a half baked mishmash of every cliche that ruined the franchise in the first place. I'm not surprised that it showed up as a reference in darkstar's blog. This is exactly the sort of crap the darkstar's disciples would go for. Not to mention that they bring it up just to make an unsupportable claim that the 25 year jump in the ST timeline will blow away any 'Warsie' claims at superior tech.

Someone should debate him, accept the numbers, and then point out that clonetroopers are so awesome that one of them can kill a million battledroids according to this same source. So clearly, one clonetrooper could probably wipe out entire divisions of Jem'Hadar, Klingons, etc.

In his blog, Darkstar wrote:But in all seriousness, no I don't take it that seriously.

Hence my frequent comments on that point, such as the comment in the very post you're replying to in which I call this "the most unimportant of topics", and lament the 'lol internet war' mentality of the opposition.

This ought to be a fun discussion between reasonable people, which is why I've always found the opposition's refusal to listen to reason and their use of vitriol, flames, character attacks, and even personal threats to be clear evidence of deep psychological trouble.

And yes, there are the old adages about not arguing with crazy/stupid people ("those watching might not be able to tell the difference", or "they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience") . . . but before I knew they were crazy, all I knew was that they were assholes and they pissed me off. And I'm a far, far bigger asshole. :)

Besides which, if you really want to compare emotional investment and need to get laid, compare my $30/mo. for hosting and my limited time investment to their $2400/year (of perfectly good college money for their kids), their tales of writing notes for site updates while on dates, their tales of trying to get info on me from exes of mine, their calls to the homes of their opponents, their discussion of how to approach opponents' homes via Google Maps reviews, et cetera, et cetera, ad nauseam.

If you do that math, you ought to come to the correct conclusion that I'm doing just fine in the getting laid department, but I do thank you for your concern. :)

For me it's a hobby, based solely on when I have some idle time to release my inner geek to lay down the geek law.

For them, it is a deep emotional investment and their primary social interaction.

That's just how it is. Sorry if you missed it.

Remember, you can't possibly be an obsessed loser if you tell people you aren't!

PS. Where did he get the idea that SDN costs me $2400/yr to maintain? Ever since I added the Google ads, this site pays for itself. With the occasional donation and the monthly expense surpluses, I can even save up enough to occasionally upgrade the server, with SDN money.

PPS. I love the part where he says that "if you do the math", you can see that he's doing fine with the ladies. Yeah, sure he is.

What math, anyways? Is he expecting us to magically calculate the aproximate physical attractiveness, metal capability and social skills and average them out or something, over the internet? Wow. He never was one for giving hard sources, was he?

I'm surprised he didn't bring up his (what passes for an) annual income. Given his tactics, you'd think he'd point it out if he made more than $20,000 a year.

I'd hardly call kicking back with someone you've been with for (at that time 6 years) a "date"!

Besides which...look who's on a "date", and who isn't.... :P

Welll, now that you pointed it out, that will certainly be his NEXT blog entry. Darkstar's entire operating procedure is to simply copy what everyone else says. Textbook example right here in this thread. Darkstar's original deathstar theory mentioned NOTHING about the superlaser "shunting" the mass of Alderaan into hyperspace. And there is certainly nothing in the Death Star novel in question about any kind of mass energy conversion in the superlaser process. But Darkstar just sits there and acts like the Death Star novel was copied straight from his webpage (including the starfleetJedi's rewording of "boost into hyperspace" to "disappear into hyperspace"). Here he is insisting he has been saying hyperspace was a part of his "theory" since 2002. The man is a sick pathological liar. And he will just continue stealing everyone else's ideas to use as his own. He'll, he probably wouldn't be aware that women even exist if we didn't keep ragging him about the issue.

All of this, of course, ignores the fact that Mike could probably afford to spend money on the site. DarkStar is a phone jockey for a crappy university. I'm willing to bet that an experienced, intelligent person with a professional degree has a bit more disposable income than someone who works in a university call center and asks for donations from alums.

As for our failure to destroy SFJ... every night I cry a little inside because that website is still up.

Yes, let's see. I haven't had anyone mad enough at me that they'd come after me with automatc weapons, or frame me for felonies. I've never hinted at the elimination of anyone. How about you, Mike?

LOL!! I forgot this too:
Hannibal Darkstar wrote:Scared the shit out of you, didn't it? Such an ominous phrasing, saying that a threat had been neutralized. It leads you to wonder if the harassing, threatening psycho is dead or alive, and, if dead, how . . . and how slowly. . . and in how much pain when it happened.

I must say, I've always enjoyed the public reaction you've had to that. Even through your spin about it, there's always been that nervous air to your statements.

Of course, you've never asked what happened. But that's okay, because I've never offered an answer. I've never suggested that the person was dead. Nor do I suggest that they are currently alive.

I'm always trying to get you to think, Wayne. And if in that case I said something that made you think -- twice, no less -- about your bad behavior, so much the better.
