I thought the balls dropped off Trek with TNG. Endless moralising and blatant pushing of some idea of a perfect society is not my idea of a fun program to watch.

I thought Jeri Ryan aka 7 of 9 was a fairly attractive woman. I honestly dont think that Jolene Blalock comes close to Ryan. And second I think that 7 of 9 saved Voyager...it was already sucking to begin with...at least when she came ratings went back up in essence she saved the show.

TPM IMO was not a bad movie. It did not suck ass. The little kiddie aspects of it sucked but on the other hand GL was also trying to make the movie into something parents could bring little children to and have fun. I mean come on...the lightsaber fight with Darth Maul and Jinn and Obi were pretty cool. The problem is...everyone compares this movie to the original Star Wars without realizing that its MEANT to be a prequel...there is no evil Empire or Darth Vader who we can clearly recognise as some malevolent force that needs some good guys to go and deal with them. I remember back in 99 some movie critic saying that the Trade Federation was a poor substitute for the Empire...I mean come on there is no Empire yet! Thats why it is a prequel! GL is trying to set up the stage.

AOTC was a better movie than TPM. In a way it reminded me of TESB. People complained that Anakin was a whiny bi**h but come on...he was meant to be! He is the chosen one! He thinks he is better than everyone else. He was clearly commenting on how he was supposedly better than Yoda at lightsaber fighting and Obi-wan made some comment to Anakin about how he was dreaming. The romance was a little silly...but I wasnt expecting a Gone With The Wind romance either. This is Star Wars homies not a chick flick. I agree with MOO about the symbolism...it was great. Seeds are already sown for the Empire to rise...Anakin clearly does not believe in democracy and we saw Palpatine coaching him.

I think one of the funniest experiences when I saw AotC was the scene where Padme and Anakin were in the dimly lit room. The reason why is because as soon as the scene began, I heard everyone in the room shift in their seats. LOL

That's because of the way Natalie Portman looked in that dress. Guys usually shift in their seats in order to make the ensuing hard-on less uncomfortable :)

I think this quote from askmen.com fits here:
Just like Jeri Ryan before her on Star Trek Voyager, Jolene Blalock is set to jump into the stratosphere of stardom, and is the primary reason to watch the new Star Trek spin-off Enterprise.

That was sort of what I implied. But for some reason I don't find her that appealing in that dress...

New Star Trek show...

Post by jegs2 »

I've tried to stomach the new Star Trek series, but it does appear as though a communist-style of government is being rather strongly put forth. In my opinion, the one thing that will always make a system like communism fail is the presence of human greed. Those in power want only more power, and their corruption is rivaled only by their speed in crushing opposition to their abuse of that power.

Additionally, that doctor of theirs just somehow rubs me wrong (reminds me of that annoying cook thing on Voyager).

Ryan is hot, just not as the dominating 7 of 9. Natalie is very hot. I stopped watching Enterprise when I saw the Klingon.

I am a TOS fan, my wife is TNG. Neither of us could stand Voyager and we quit watching Enterprise about thirty minutes into the first show. Crap, absolute crap.
DS9 had moments. About every fourth episode.

I agree with those who argue that what was once a really neat idea, was simply destoryed by horribly writers, an old Gene and B&B. But if it could be revamped or as another suggested - put on the shelf for awhile - then it could make a come back as a viable Sci Fi show.

But with Paramount behind the wheel, this isn't going to happen. They will continue to produce the show until it runs dry of $ and then they'll dump it. Whoever is in charge at Paramount would do well to hire a different group of writers, have an independent come up with an idea and create a new show. B5 kicked ass. Trek could again if the current shit was flushed. But the best solution I can come up with is just to start over at this point.

Fuck but Enterprise is bad.

On the show, her haircut looks too disturbingly like my little brother's for me to find her very attractive. And she's still no reason for me to watch that show over Friends or other, similar, Prime Time crap on bigger and more powerful networks.

Does anyone other than me think that Hoshi is more attractive than T'Pol?

Ossus is right. T'Pol's "little boy haircut" really cut's down on Blalock's attractiveness level on the show (from the ~20 minutes of Enterprise I've seen). I mean, shit, her hair looks like some shitty cut kids used to get like 20-25 years ago.

Hoshi is far more attractive than T'Pol. She still isn't worth missing out on any of the other shows on more network television.

Incidentally, I even thought that Natalie's other dress where she was talking with Anakin about sand was even more attractive than the one by the fire. I seem to be a minority of one on that issue, though.

Star Wars, while by no means perfect, at least has not been destroyed by the combined power of technobabble, bad writing, and Hollywood, left-wing utopianism. Do you suppose B&B get any feedback from fans telling them that they are desecrating the shit out of what was once a very great series? Do they ever get any constructive criticism, I wonder?

Frankly, I think a great idea for a show would be a short (no more than three season) series on the Romulan War that was referred to in TOS ep. "Balance of Terror". It ought to present a more militaristic Starfleet, and a society more like that seen in TOS (i.e. non-communist). Maybe then we could get more action and fast paced stories and less preachy, sanctimonious moralizing as humans spread new-age, touchy-feeliness throughout the galaxy.

Sigh... It'll never happen, I know (certainly not while B&B are running things), but it would be nice.

Forunately, we do have a sci fi franchise that gives our action fix and keeps the technobabble down to a minimum. It's called Star Wars. I'll take it, and TOS of Star Trek over the current load of horse biscuits churned out by B&B any day.

I definitely think Starfleet needs to be presented more like it was in TOS and the TOS movies, a true science-military hybrid rather than too far to either side. The relationships between characters in Voyager and Enterprise seem a bit stiff and forced, there's kind of a lack of sincerity there that needs to be there. The TOS, mid-late DS9 and TNG movie casts have this.

A lot of the things that have been pointed out that could have been better in TNG like special effects stuff, not showing Wolf 359 for example are just because of limitations of technology at the time. Do have you any idea how expensive and time consuming it would be to do a battle involving 41 ships in the pre-cgi days? Also I think it makes the graveyard scene much more dramatic although it would have been cool to see the fleet gathered for the battle and the first shots fired but no more.

Enterprise will probably get better, this is only it's first season. Most firsts are pretty lousy, A New Hope, 1st season of TNG, 1st season of DS9, the first season of Voyager wasn't that bad because the novelty of a ship lost in the Delta quadrant amongst hostile aliens hadn't worn off yet. Enterprise has had some good episodes and some bad ones and the writers and producers have made some bad decisions, like T'Pol's unrealistic uniform and most especially the phase cannons. (I was looking forward to seeing the Enterprise duke it out with normal looking torpedos and particle pulses), and the overall design of Enterprise (don't get me wrong, I do NOT want to see a Daedalus-class for 7 seasons but I would have rather not seen a clear rip off of the Akira) but they've had a few good episodes too. They sharpened the Klingons teeth and are planning on showing us the Romulan war.

They are going to show us the Romulan war? where did you hear this - it might actually, some what, maybe salvage the show ... prehaps.

I agree completely. The problem is that so many of the characters are so inconsistent. Unlike B5, TNG, DS9, and TOS, when you knew what to expect from all of the personalities.

A lot of the things that have been pointed out that could have been better in TNG like special effects stuff, not showing Wolf 359 for example are just because of limitations of technology at the time. Do have you any idea how expensive and time consuming it would be to do a battle involving 41 ships in the pre-cgi days? I liked the way that they did Wolf 359, since I knew that they could not show that battle because of the multitude of ships. And it did make the Graveyard seem dramatic. Those were perhaps the best episodes in TNG history, and to attack them for the Graveyard just seems like a nitpick. It also would have taken some of the mystique out of the Borg if they had shown the battle itself. I hated those parts of DS9 when they went back and let you watch five seconds of the battle, because I think they either should have showed much more or just alluded to the conflict.

I hope Enterprise gets better, but I don't think it will. The problems with it are consistency in characters and plot, and problems in those areas tend to get worse rather than better. Just look at Voyager, and how they missed so many opportunities to show rivalry between the Maquis members of the crew and the Federation. Instead, we saw the Maquis seamlessly integrate themselves into the crew within like, two episodes. In Enterprise, they are missing many of the same opportunities to make the crew seem more dramatic. They should have conflicts with the Vulcans, especially T'Pol. In B5, many people told us that they did not trust telepaths, and then we saw and heard why. In Enterprise, everyone keeps saying that they don't trust Vulcans, or that the Vulcans are holding them back, etc., etc., but we never see that prejudice manifest itself. We never really see the crew retaliating against the Vulcans, or taking any actions against the Vulcans in any way. For a show to be successful, it must have believable and consistent characters. Enterprise has neither, and appears to be getting worse before it gets better.
