What was the big deal?

The article describes an interview with Chekov, where he gives his
opinion about a series after Enterprise has been completed.
It had precious little to do with Berman, and nothing to do with
Braga.
They mentioned that Berman has said he would like to have a movie
with characters from more than one show in it (Already done, in
Nemesis)
The whole point was Chekov promoting his new movie script.

Well if they remake TOS I'll fucking drown myself. NO-ONE can beat Leonard Nimoy and DeForrest Kelley.

While I agree that nobody could beat the Nimoy-Kelley chemistry, Keep
in mind all that remake stuff is only opinion based on an assumption.
Assuming that Enterprise lasts for seven years, and that Paramount
decides to make another Trek series, the only thing in favor of re-making
TOS is one guys opinion.

Neither B&B are capable to do a TOS type series. Their brainpowers aren't that good in creativity. And I would hope it would sink faster than a rock thrown into a lake.

I doubt there even will be a new TOS series.

I read that earlier. Leave TOS alone, please. The BattleStar Galactica people are already feeling sick about their "remake," leave this alone.
TrekWars: The Furry Conflict. A unique and inventive mix of "Trek" and "Wars"--with some fur to add color.

The part of that that really bothered me was the bit about creating a new movie that is not bound by the "history," incorporating characters from various series.

Why piss off the fans? If you want to do a series set in the TOS era, do a series on another ship in the TOS era.

How about letting Trek rest for a decade or so instead of over-saturating the fan base?

That may not be a good idea. Star Trek made a great comeback after TOS ended. Similarly it is easy to assume that Star Trek would again make a comeback in a new era now that the TNG era is over. I disagree though.

The socio-economic situation is different today from the eighties when Star Trek returned with the TOS movies and TNG. Space opera is no longer in demand like it once was. Today there are no space based action - adventure shows of note like Star Trek or Babylon 5 running on TV. Indeed we may never see things like Star Wars or Star Trek ever produced again. The public now watches The Matrix, Hulk, X-Men, reality TV and stuff like that.

To make them interested in space opera again we need a realy good series, Star Trek is a perfect candidate for that. A well written Star Trek show would be a great success and would return Star Trek to it's former glory. And a new series must come now rather than later. Ten years from now few people would remember Star Trek other than die-hard fans. Today there is still a significant Star Trek fanbase which could be used to boost Star Trek once again. Paramount has to act now to save the Star Trek franchise.

B&B would never do it; there's nothing for them to "innovate" (i.e. inflate their ego with) and they seem to despise TOS.

Frankly, I'm skeptical of there being another series, period.
