Flick through any tourist brochure on Jordan and glossy photos of its top attractions- the mineral-rich waters of the Dead Sea and the ancient ruins in Petra- will probably jump off the pages.

But come 2014, Jordan is hoping a new Star Trek themed attraction will draw in huge crowds, as part of a huge $1bn Red Sea resort development in the coastal town of Aqaba.

The 184-acre site – which will be named The Red Sea Astrarium – will feature four hotels and Star Trek-themed attractions, including a state of the art ‘space-flight adventure’ simulator ride, which developers promise will raise ‘real-time immersive entertainment experiences to bold new heights’.

Jordan is renowned for its tranquil beaches, ancient ruins and pampering spas. Photos: Jordan Tourist Board.

Middle East entertainment firm Rubicon has signed a deal with US media giants Paramount and CBS to launch the resort.

King Abdullah II of Jordan, who is known to be a fan of Star Trek, is believed to be the main local investor behind the project.

Construction is expected to begin next year with the opening scheduled for 2014.
In the country of Jordan of all places.

Given the King of Jordan once appeared as an extra in Voyager and is a major Trekkie? Sometimes it's good to be the King.

This has been posted elsewhere on this board a few months ago.

Still, it'll be interesting on their take of the franchise.
