OVEG: The Q And The Grey
The Q And The Grey is the unnecessary sequel to Death Wish, which takes a strained concept past the breaking point, throws in lame sitcom jokes, and tops it off with the most ludicrous closing scene we've had in a long time. Plus, the world's lamest insult and Voyager does a joke about the size of Q's penis.

God, I remember this episode. Saw it in Germany, in fact, and dubbed. This failed to improve the situation.

You'd think a Starfleet Captain who got her crew stranded in the ass-end of nowhere wouldn't be above a little slap-and-tickle with an omnipotent being if it meant getting 'em home safe. Seriously, it lasts an hour or so and then they're home - nobody even has to know.

Well knowing Q, I'm not sure I'd put it past him to publicly taunt Janeway over it.Kodiak wrote:You'd think a Starfleet Captain who got her crew stranded in the ass-end of nowhere wouldn't be above a little slap-and-tickle with an omnipotent being if it meant getting 'em home safe. Wow. A competitor to Threshold. Glad I never say that- seriously, we already have Greek Style Gods- they could have used them instead of doing so much character derailment on the Qs.
Also, the really fucked up on the uniforms. Seriously, that was pathetic- not to mention there are a ton of other civil wars that could have been used.

Uniforms from the War of Independence would've worked better IMHO:Samuel wrote:Also, the really fucked up on the uniforms. Seriously, that was pathetic- not to mention there are a ton of other civil wars that could have been used.
Civil war? Check.
Establishment vs freedom-fighters? Check.
Bunch of foreigners helping said freedom fighters? Check.
Freedom fighters winning? Check.
World better off as a result? Check.

Re: OVEG: The Q And The Grey
Butbut... then they couldn't have used a lame Q pun for the title. It just isn't a Q episode without a Q pun. I wouldn't be surprised if that's precisely how much thought the writers put into it.Teleros wrote:Uniforms from the War of Independence would've worked better IMHO:Samuel wrote:Also, the really fucked up on the uniforms. Great review, as always.
I wish to propose for the reader's favorable consideration a doctrine which may, I fear, appear wildly paradoxical and subversive. The doctrine in question is this: that it is undesirable to believe a proposition when there is no ground whatever for supposing it true. I must, of course, admit that if such an opinion became common it would completely transform our social life and our political system; since both are at present faultless, this must weigh against it.

Re: OVEG: The Q And The Grey
Just remembering the Q-kissing-Janeway's-foot scene makes me nauseus.
Also, I think the actor playing Tom Paris (I forget his name; sue me.) was flinching from the black powder flash.![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

Re: OVEG: The Q And The Grey
It's actually an act of courage to have the GOOD GUYS wear Union uniforms in Hollywood, a place overflowing with Old South sympathizers, like shit from a busted toilet. Besides the damn obvious The Birth of a Nation, there's also The Outlaw Josey Wales, "Launchpad's Civil War" (an episode of DuckTales), Jonah Hex, and countless Jesse James flicks.Oh, and just to point it out: I find it ironic that the rebels are wearing blue when the rebels in the real Civil War wore grey. But then, we know why it's that way: because even if you pointed it out in the episode no one would tolerate the protagonists wearing the uniform of the Confederacy. Obviously being a midwesterner I have no love for the Confederacy, I just can't abide Hollywood cowardice when it comes to certain opinions.
Please do not make Americans fight giant monsters.
Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.
They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)

Re: OVEG: The Q And The Grey
I wonder how a human could have a child with a Q. I mean what would the child be, half-omnipotent? Could he ( let's assume a 'he' since the gender neutrality of Q is completely ruined by this episode ) appear and disappear? Travel through time? Or only the Q part of him would and the human wouldn't?
It seriously makes more sense for Janeway to have a baby with the holographic Doctor. That way she can say 'Computer, deactivate baby' when she doesn't want it around/

Re: OVEG: The Q And The Grey
The site was down for me as well.
Anyway, I do remember this episode. It was so awful that I think I blocked a lot of it out of my memory. There was something about Q wanting to have a baby with Janeway because the Q needed human DNA, and that's where my brain called it quits and bailed on the episode.

- a comic book published in New York
- DuckTales episode in which the (famously clumsy) hero is descended from a (clumsy) Union soldier and the villain-of-the-episode is descended from a Confederate soldier.

Chuck:
To compound the horribleness of the episode that shall not be named, did you notice how the Confederates were using Trapdoor Springfield rifles, a weapon that didn't come out until 1873, 8 years after the Civil War ended?
The fact that Tuvok was later shown using a Colt M-1860 Army revolver doesn't make up for this...

Oy vey, that's an embarrassingly bad episode, but also very typical of that worthless show.
Good review, Sonnenburg. I love this quote: "This episode then breaks through the basement floor to find a new low..." Don't pull any punches. A rating of 3 is still a little high IMO though...
