What's the best LOOKING fighter plane ever?

Post by Darth Wong »

Yes, it's a contest of fighter planes not as tactical instruments, but as pieces of art. So what's the best-looking fighter plane in the world, according to you?

My personal favourite is the F-15 Eagle:

The F-22 may be tactically superior but it looks like a toy.

The F-15 is fine bird, only one that I like even more so is this fighter.

Cool (although I'm not a fan of the swept-forward wings because they look goofy to me). I wonder what makes people prefer a certain design; in my case I like the F-15 because it's a nice mixture of sleek lines and muscularity.

I like a plane that looks like it's slicing through the air. For me the swept forward doesn't portray that very well, because the wings look as if they are going against the thought of moving forward.

Something I have to admit is definitly not much with some designs. The Blackbird is a design I like...the F-117 Nighthawk is waaaaay too bulky looking, and the B-2 has no sexy lines to it. Looks like a floating wing.

I like the Su-47 as well. Looks futuristic without being hokey.

If Mike insists that its not aceptable for not being a fighter, I'm also a fan of the old F-4

The F-5 is just a work of art.

And for some reason I've always liked the F-104. It seems like it's hard to find an angle where it doesn't look fast and pretty.

Spitfire and Lancaster win it for prop-planes. I know the Lanc is an ugly beast, but she's an ugly beast in such a lovable way.

F-5 gets style points.

Oddly enough, I like swept forward wings. This possibly explains my fanboyism of the F-302 from Stargate and the most-likely-fictional Switchblade.

The English Electric Lightning, It's nothing special, and it was a pretty shit aircraft when it came to carrying ordnance, but there's just something about its profile that I... appreciate.

I agree with Darth Servo on the F-4. I always thought the "crooked" wings and tail fins looked cool.

I have to side with the F-15, partially because that's what the main Decepticon Seekers were. :)

They call it the Spitfire, and it is God.

I'm not actually sure why I like it so much. It can't claim to as be as sleek or sharp or 'cutting edge' as planes of today, yet its silhouette strikes a definite cord with me. I might just be a sucker for planes of the era though, after this I've always liked the Typhoon and Corsair, mostly for its wing design.
