Wow, those are awesome. I think my favorite is the underside and rear shots.

With a bit of work I managed to get it down from 520,000+ polygons to about 300,000 so its a bit more manageable. Now that you are building much larger, more detailed models you'll need to start thinking about the mechanics of it more, especially in terms of polygon count versus detail. The tiny black hinges on the engine nozzle flaps are almost invisible, but they had more than 60,000 polys in them. I replaced them with little black rectangles which look the same at this scale but were less than 200 polys in total.

Since its a long arrowhead its difficult to get a decent shot of it from the front that shows the scale and detail, which is why the rear shots or above/below look better. They show the scale and size better. I'm going to try and get an animation done that will show its a huge ship rather than just long & flat.

Ive got a frigate and destroyer sized ship to go along with that one if you wanted to do a fleet shot. However, its gonna take me a while to put them up to same detail level. Let me know if you want them.

I've rendered the first scene of the animation, I'll set up the second scene tomorrow and try and get it rendered too. No point trying to show the scale of the ship with other huge ships, so I'm doing a scene with a small mining/exploration vessel which is examining some asteroids. Your ship makes an appearance as it rolls overhead, dwarfing the miner and giving some scale to the scene. Might take 2 or 3 days yet to complete, but will be worth it.

Man, that's a full 24 hours of rendering time on this animation and your spaceship has only just made its first appearance! lol The first 30 seconds or so are just setting the scene with the small mining ship. Now its showed up the rendering times are going through the roof because it's just added 310,000 polys and 50+ lights to the scene.

Lolz.......sorry. Blame Fractal. He drove me to this. How big did you scale the ship? Its slightly smaller than an ISD.

I haven't touched the scale, I think its over a kilometer long from what I saw. The ship its going to fly past is about 45 meters long so it should make for a nice juxtaposition. Hopefully the setup scene will have finished rendering when I get home so I can begin animating the actual flypast. I've also picked out some suitable music, just need to go get it.

That, That is awesome. And shows me why I need to master lighting next time I have a ship i'm trying to render.

Here's a link to the start of the animation. It's kind of a tease, because your ship doesn't even show up until the last few seconds. I've started rendering the next scene, so if I get a scene every night or so we should be done in a week or two.

Since you are into tails for ships what about having a look at Progenitor Attack Drones from HW2 front-side side
front and sides with closed tail

They are pretty cool, imho.

Tell me Grahf, does the Republic cruiser retain it's underbelly guns and hanger as with the prototype WIPs? :D
I see the pics you just posted varies slightly from the WIP configuration,is why I am asking.
Prefer the final result much better.
Thanks again for the pics.
