About APX: yeah, but they won't be using the Agfaphoto name, so if it says Agfa or AgfaPhoto, it's still from the old stocks of film coated before 2007.
Is there a reason why the CanoScans have lower effective resolution than the claimed 9600dpi for the 9000F?

I'm trying out Tri-X 400 and pushing it to 1600 to see what I get.

Interpolation and possibly lens limits. The V700 has a "true" resolution considerably lower than its specified 6400 dpi.

The linear CCD of the 9000F really does have a resolution of 9600 ppi (no fucking dots there, dpi is a printing term and I don't care how commonly it is misused in the industry) and the same goes for the 6400 ppi of V700. The pixels are not interpolated but come straight from the CCD. (Actually there are of course three times the number of imaging sites, because it is an RGB color device and linear CCDs don't have anything like the Bayer interpolation of camera sensors.)

It's all about the lenses and the fact that flatbed scanners are fixed focus devices. There are slight variations between individual scanners and also between individual lenses. Unless the focus is is always perfect the real resolution drops dramatically. The variations between scanners can be compensated somewhat by adjusting the height of the film holders, but it can't compensate for the lens variations. Also the lenses themselves are not really good enough to get that kind of resolutions for the price of these flatbeds. The Hasselblad Flextight X1 that actually has 6300 ppi resolution costs more than 10 times the price of the V700 and not all of that price difference is due to economies of scale.

These are some shots from my first batch of self-developed B&W film (though the film itself was a bit of bad luck. One was damaged because I opened my camera without rewinding, and another somehow the film didn't catch and didn't cycle properly.) All Afga APX400, and on CV35mm/f1.2.

Tri-X 400 pushed to 1600. I scanned in color, then desaturated the photos, then applied auto-constrast in photoshop.

I've lacked time over the past few months, but i'm hoping to get "back in the game" so to speak.
I'm also starting a 365/3 Project.

A few random snaps from the past week and a bit:

Generic, but I liked it, and the light was nice. (Best pic of the evening. The rest from inside a party sucked).

I didn't get the effect I was going for despite a few attempts. I might have had better luck with an external flash and better metering.

From late December, after Christmas.

Took this picture right at sunset as the truck was pulling around to line up and dump. You can still see a bit of the sunlight on the box and a bit on the passenger side muffler up top. The original was incredibly noisy, since I took it in low-light with my iPhone. I cropped it a bit and shrank it to post. I can post the original if anyone wants to see if that was better :)

We're in Toronto, most of our river valleys look like that in the fall.

And now for some real black & white film, shot with a camera that's older than I am.

I have been shooting film a fair bit. What I do lack really is a good scanner. So I content myself with some Photoshop sharpening.

Shitty pictures, it was actually getting quite dark outside even though the pictures don't show it. But goddamn I am finally done! I've worked on this car all summer, replaced fuel injectors, EGR valve, repaired and put back in the factory cassette radio, repaired and repainted the spoiler and reprogrammed the ECM (with factory settings, had to replace the broken chip):
