I am now in the process of making a Fire Truck Cake for the Fire Station near where I live. This thread is reserved for the pictures of the cake and of the firefighters enjoying it.

Update: The cakes are being baked.

Cakes are being sized and leveled etc. Making the frosting tonight. Making the cardboard base.

ARGH!!!!! I don't have enough cake! Making more now.

Layers Built letting it set overnight.

I didn't finish until 6:00

Pictures of the truck. It measures 26" 6" and was 5" tall. The firefighters loved it but I only got one pic with them as they got a call right after the group pic. As a side note a son of one of the firefighters was there for his third birthday party and he thought it was the neatest thing and tried to hug it.

Am I alone in looking forward to seeing fire fighter eat cake?

Man Isolder when are you going to do one shaped like the USS Missouri?

When I get enough courage to try it and a sailor asks me nice enough to give it a try.

The truck is finished and pics are up!

Something I should mention. When I dropped off the cake they told me that they were not able to get a cake for the son. As I should have already mentioned, not only was my cake a day
late it was done 6 hours after I had planned when the first day fell through because I had to make more cake. I made their day and that of the little boy as well.

As always comments are welcome.

Posted by Isolder74's Assistant cake maker, Frank Lloyd Wright.

The Fire Truck cake came together well in the end. This is our best cake (I helped make some of the others too) but is was not without trials. The baking was tricky. The night before there was rain and the cakes rose kind of lumpy. The next day we made more and they did not rise as much. There was a gravity problem with the truck ladder. the royal icing proved to not harden very well so the ladder kept falling apart. We got it to stay together for long enough to lift up and try to put it on but the cookies fell apart and the royal icing came unglued. The ladder snapped into many pieces and disaster. Isolder was going to give up on a ladder. Always an optimist I suggested building it on the cake and we repaired the broken cookies on the cake. This is the ladder that you see on the cake. then while looking at the cake with the ladder on it the front cab now looked squashed. (since this was Ladder three we were building the squashed cab is rather unsettling) Looking at one of the scrap pieces cut out from earlier isolder discovered it was perfect for the top of the cab and even cut with the right angle for the windshield. This went on and the cake sculpting was finished. Iced and decorated this was a joy to make and deliver.

The cake was delivered in my car (a 74 Duster) to the fire station. It takes two or three people to carry this cake so we recruited the firefighters to help get it out of the car. Unknown to us, it was one of the firefighters kid's 3rd birthday that day. The September 11 cake one day late proved to be the right day to deliver it. We also made this cake to honor this station for being one of the first responders to a five alarm fire that destroyed and entire condo complex in Ogden They fought this fire for 8 hours and the building was a total loss.

All in all this was a successful cake.

Thank you
Frank Lloyd Wright
