It is a heat treatment incorporating various chemicals that makes the surface muti colored and very hard to prevent rust. Mostly used on firearms.

You heat metal up till its red hot and then quench it in carbon rich oil to make the material harder. You can use old motor oil even.
Are you saying you're leaving the model this colour, this is the finish you want?

Another method is to pack a piece of low carbon steel in bone and charcoal and heat it for an extended period. It makes carbon penetrate the surface of the steel. This provides a softer interior with a hardened surface.

She's just got liquid mask on the cockpit. I put a pilot in the seat. I am still debating whether to tint the canopy. Get some pics up later.

Is the interior of the cockpit finished? If not, and it's sealed, I'd say just tint it.

Oh yeah it is fully painted. I thought I was being careful but somehow it got very dusty inside.
