Re: It's been a while

Ok, I tossed some stuff up:
https://kienhui.github.io/STGOD/SDNW8/Tsaj.html

I've still got to make it look prettier, I know. And there's more details to come.

Re: It's been a while

maddoctor, jub - those concepts sound good to me. --- The Tsaj is a collection of gestalt minds. Each individual Tsaj is made up of worms. Each worm is relatively mindless, but when they form into a mass, their intelligence massively increases, in a approximately logistic function. Memories can be t...

Re: It's been a while

Major objection I have is that moving even a star is beyond that tech level I was thinking of, let alone moving the entire galaxy. As you mention, you'd end up with most if not all of the players banding against you, which I don't think is what this game needs.

As far as the rules go, I think there's not much reason not to rip off SDNW5's ruleset. Any objections? or ideas for revisions?

Re: It's been a while

Ok. Looks like people are interested in space. Let's have about a week to flesh out concepts for a space STGOD. I'm thinking something roughly moderate tech? Roughly Honorverse or similar tech level (not magitek, or like general replicators, but higher than The Expanse). As far as OOBs go: I'm think...

Re: The Walls Come Down: No Travel Betwen US and Europe for 30 Days

While it may appear like the federal government is playing favorites, federal officials said their decisions were based on their best assessment of relative needs. HHS told states this week that it is giving out 25% of the stockpile to states according to population size, and sending another 25% st...

Tomato sauce is a pretty good source of vegetables and vitamins which won't expire, yeah. Tomato sauce is acidic. If you're planning on long term storage, get it in glass or plastic jars. If it's to be consumed ASAP, metal cans are OK. Most metal cans are lined with plastic. So I wouldn't worry abo...

So... the MFG rescinded the price increase, and it's prescription in the US, so you can't just run out to get a bunch of stock for your own use. And it's the only company that makes it in the US, so yeah, I'm not surprised that the price is a bit higher than in AU. Nevermind the fact that it's not t...

Re: Gun-advocates threaten civil war to protect their guns.

Currently the compromise the other side is talking about is "not banning all guns." If your side keeps refusing to negotiate, there may come a day when you look back and say to yourself "boy, I really wish we had taken some of those compromises we were offered." 10: "I've altered the deal, pray I d...

But I am a big tea drinker and I stock up on various tea varieties when I am in Asia. Is there any place where I can experience English teas? Twinnings has a tea shop on the Strand. Can't get more British than that. In the same category — at least, I don't think I've heard of it turning up in Forn ...

Re: Boeing’s Starliner capsule mission falls short of orbit.

Boeing missed contract parameter. They must demonstrate unmanned docking to ISS. Reflight necessary under contract. Too bad they're paying $200M for MIGHTY ATLAS V, instead of $60M for DIRTY FALCON. Got a source for that? Also, Atlas V has never failed a customer delivery. You do pay for a legacy s...

Yeah, Shep's example is dumb. So let's use a better analogy. Cryptography is dangerous. It's used by criminals, terrorists, and enemy nations to keep their plans secret. So what if we banned the usage of cryptography that was stronger than 40-bits or equivalent? Maybe you could use stronger encrypti...

It's not as straight-forward as one gun per person or one gun per household. Firearms and Violence in American Life by Newton and Zimring in 1968 Appendix D on hard copy page 175 has data on an October 1968 Harris poll on firearms, where 1,175 people over 18 were sampled on multiple questions. How ...

So... In theory anybody with a decent machine shop could make themselves an AR-15, with no legal repercussions? Am I reading that right? Attempted murder isn't a third degree felony in Texas. Attempted crimes are one degree lower than the base crime in Texas, which is first degree for murder.
