Re: Rise of Skywalker news.

The MCU-style dialogue doesn't annoy me nearly as much as the pretense that flying troopers are something new. https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Clone_jetpack_trooper https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Jumptrooper I miss the days when Star Wars characters regarded their amazing technology with the sam...

Re: The Mandalorian Discussion Thread (spoilers and such)

Sure. Piss poor bounty hunter, nigh invulnerable killing machine. Unless someone shoots it in the head. Then it goes down. Do you now understand why organics make better bounty hunters ? The part of bounty hunting that organics are good at is obviated by the tracking chips and the fact that frontal...

Re: The Mandalorian Discussion Thread (spoilers and such)

I think it was kind of corny that even the children in the Mandalorian camp were also wearing helmets...I know that in some interpretations of the Star Wars EU (mainly the toilet paper novels written by Karen Traviss), the Mandalorians are some kind of uber-warrior culture with rules about never ta...

Re: The Mandalorian Discussion Thread (spoilers and such)

Once again, we have a droid being incredibly powerful with no hint of why droids don't just do everything, except for his hatred of droids that pretty quickly disappears. The droid seemed less competent as a bounty hunter than the Mandalorian. In the opening scene, the Mandalorian came to within gr...

Re: The Mandalorian Discussion Thread (spoilers and such)

The pacing was pretty offputting. So was the forced grittiness, opening with talking about how to harvest organs and the first fight concluding with a guy being bisected. I didn't like a lot of the stuff they implied, such as bounties being trackable with a simple device. It would be one thing if th...

The Mandalorian Discussion Thread (spoilers and such)

Anyone else seen the first episode yet? I got Disney+ as part of a package with Verizon, so I went ahead and watched it last night.

Disappointing. Thoughts?

It might. I know I'm sure as hell not signing up for Disney Thing. At least HBO has other cool stuff to offer to the majority of viewers.

Also, isn't a parsec a unit of distance, not area? Akin to saying "the best in the mile." Not quite right.

Re: Rise of Skywalker news.

I ought to watch the trailer a second time, as it was quite late the first time. But the horses thing was odd to me. There were animals used for riding in the original trilogy, but they were never front and center, super dramatic. It looked like Game of Thrones.

Re: Sun Crusher, would it be a better choice than the Death Star for the empire?

Yeah, gotta agree. This thing is a total loose cannon. Is indestructible armor even worth having if it could be stolen? Would it be worthwhile to have an unkillable SSD if there's a chance someone you don't like could get ahold of it? I would think not. If I were the Emperor, I'd just torch the whol...

Re: Soliciting advice for my eight-way sci-fi crossover fanfiction

This sounds fucking awesome. I can't promise that I'll be available, and my technical knowledge is limited to Star Wars out of those listed, but I am absolutely willing to help how I can. I do consider myself something of a writer, so I can help on the non-technical aspects.

Re: THRAWN: TREASON coming out in July

And that’s a piss poor analogy since a democratic government could have beaten the vong. Had better choices been made the vong would have been stopped regardless That is true, but the New Republic was never going to make those choices. What was needed to defeat the Vong was militarism and superweap...

So he's a monster with the ability to justify things? Goodo. It's like those guys who laud the SS for "defending Europe from Bolshevism." I haven't been on your side, but this simile does make me pause to consider. I would say, perhaps, that it is more similar to those who laud the USSR for defendi...

Re: Clone Wars Continuity Order

Far as Star Wars canon is concerned the Tartakovsky series never happened and I don't see why so many people are enamored with it. The animation was atrocious. We like it because it was good. Animation wasn't bad, it was stylistic. By far the best Grievous out of all portrayals. And it did a better...

Re: Ancestor in Civil War

My family has a a chateau in France and another in Canada that bears our name. No claim to it, obviously, but they're still there. An unsubstantiated legend: some of my ancestors fought in the Civil War, as Confederates, and were given one cannon and one ball to defend a river from Union crossing. A...

Re: Jon Favreau to write, exec. produce live-action SW

I would have liked the lead to be female as well. Pisses me off to no end that the only female Mando we see in Clone Wars is obviously female, wearing less armor, showing off her midriff. Err which Mando are you referring to the only female mandalorian I can think of from the Clone Wars has mostly ...

Re: TLJ throne room fight scene

Yeah. And we've seen how useful Palpatine's guards are against Force users, when Yoda knocked out two with one Force push, and when Palpatine didn't even think it worthwhile to keep them in the room while trying to turn Luke. Yeah that was stupid. Yoda doesn't use the Force for combat. When he was ...

Re: TLJ throne room fight scene

Addendum: I would really, really like to see a fight between a skilled Force user and a non Force user and have the latter win in the canon. Mandalorian bounty hunter versus purge survivor, or clone trooper versus general during the purge, or Red Guards against anyone, just for some ideas. Or a stor...

Re: TLJ throne room fight scene

Anyway, I agree that Force powers would have made the fight better, but I also think that Rey should not be capable of Force powers. I would have been annoyed to see her using combat telekinesis. I was annoyed to see her have anything more than rudimentary skill with a blade. I agree that Rey shoul...

Re: The Battle of Bilbringi

The OT gets a pass because it was the original, damn it. It established what Star Wars is, so when other stuff comes along and fucks that up, then OF COURSE we take the original! The prequels on their own would simply be a kinda weird sci fi universe I would probably avoid, except for certain good ...

Re: TLJ throne room fight scene

Look, there's a difference between labeling Rey a Mary Sue because you're a Nazi and labeling her a Mary Sue because she has abilities far beyond what we're comfortable with someone having after a few weeks practice. I call the sequel trilogy bad because it's bad, not because it serves my agenda. I ...
