Re: Legend of Korra Book 3 Talkback - "Changes" (Spoilers)

Well Aang got his mastery tattoos so early because he was just that good. To earn the tattoos you needed to display mastery of the all the different airbender techniques/forms, or (as Aang did) master most of them and develop a new and unique one of your own (Aang's air scooter).

Re: Legend of Korra Book 3 Talkback - "Changes" (Spoilers)

And another things that's been bugging me. We've seen a lot about how to safely imprison benders, but how long could you realistically keep fire and waterbenders contained? At the Boiling Rock, remember, they let the firebenders in the general population and only dropped them in the freezer if they...

Re: Are comic book heroes more willing to kill?

I haven't read the issue, but from that sequence as posted I think Captain America would have preferred them just straight up subduing them (without the death threat) same as they always do with bad guys. Their past history of conflicts certainly backs up his view that they can always just beat back...

Re: So Thor's a woman, what else is new?

I've been thinking about this, and was wondering if they're gonna link 616 and Ultimate again with this. Currently Ultimate Thor is stuck in the Negative Zone, it would be interesting if in an attempt to escape his hammer ends up in 616 and then well FemThor happens.

Re: Legend of Korra Book 3 Talkback - "Changes" (Spoilers)

As to the doors, you don't need to be an airbender to master them, Korra managed them long before she could bend, it was about the footwork and other techniques, which she even incorporated in her probending. It's conceivable that Zaheer learned these as a way to fight against benders given the evas...

Re: Are comic book heroes more willing to kill?

Back on the topic of the Joker, here's an interesting story for you all to digest regarding his powers of charisma and Teflon nature. In Death in the Family, after brutally killing Jason Todd (don't worry, he gets better) Joker manages to secure diplomatic immunity for himself, along with some kind ...

Re: Legend of Korra Book 3 Talkback - "Changes" (Spoilers)

Varrick is Iron Man, just saying.

It kinda sucked to see Kya go down like she did, but considering Zaheer was a threat before he even had bending I guess it makes sense.

Seconding that Metal City was awesome.

Re: Are comic book heroes more willing to kill?

I took it as biostem suggesting the lobotomy as an alternative form of punishment to killing someone, in that the death penalty is off the table, given the prior statement about incarceration, so it would seem to be this is concerning supervillains that have already been captured and are being dealt...

Re: Are comic book heroes more willing to kill?

Ugh, Avengers Arcade was already terrible and that just makes it all the worse. It's clear the "killer" was a victim and acted in response to obvious (there's videotape evidence of it for crying out loud!) trauma. That entire case is just asking for a plea bargain like you said. Heck, give...

Re: Are comic book heroes more willing to kill?

Except in comic book worlds, societies have access to super tech themselves with which they can deal with most superpowered threats (once they've been subdued), heck pre-nu52 Metropolis had Science Police that used super tech to deal with supervillains, why more polities didn't develop similar orga...

Re: Are comic book heroes more willing to kill?

The heroes, being private citizens who are by nature incapable of administering due process, have every reason to be restrained about willfully killing other people. The law can afford to take its time and ensure that justice is done... so if anyone should be killing the Joker, it should be the cou...

Re: Super powers and mass, matter and energy

I've been thinking about the matter transmutators, it doesn't necessarily need to be an issue of massive information processing (well it could be for the ones who can do it on a large scale with very fine control), but for more generic things, it could just be an example of expert recall like with c...

Re: Are comic book heroes more willing to kill?

The traditional superhero stance against killing or, more specifically, being against killing in any situation (even that of self-defence) has always rung hollow to me. Out of universe it's always been nothing more than a transparent ploy to maintain sales (there can't be any thrilling superheroics...

Umm, what is positron emission ? It is possible for matter to produce antimatter. Now it's certainly not a common occurrence (otherwise it wouldn't be so hard to get antimatter), but it a natural process and one we can increase. Some hypothetically advanced civilization might be able to create speci...

Re: Predator reboot incoming

Since the talk is of the mythology of the Predators, I was actually wondering if they might go forward with the Predators idea and a plot from the books with a human who has essentially become a Predator. You could have the human "Predator" teamed up with a proper Pred hunting humans with ...

Considering how much Cersei dislikes Robert she might just go and bang Lancel or someone if Jamie isn't getting the job done, I certainly wouldn't put it past her to do such a thing.

Re: Super powers and mass, matter and energy

I must have somehow missed that part about Hank's height when I skim read various sources. At 6'11" that would make Hank taller than Thor who is only 6'6". I don't ever recall him being that tall, and always thought he was around Cap's height. I agree, when I read that I couldn't believe ...

Re: LEgend of Korra Book 3 Talkback - "Changes" (Spoilers)

I posted a quick summary in the Book 3 trailer thread if you're interested and don't feel like actually watching the Spanish leaks. Anyway, I was thinking about Ghazan's power and was wondering if you could do the same while metalbending. Imagine molten jets of metal being bent around like a waterbe...

Re: Super powers and mass, matter and energy

Hank Pym's height isn't given, but lets assume roughly 6 feet. If he grows to 100 feet, that's 16 2/3 times his height, so his mass would increase by the cubed amount of this, ie 4600 times. So I guess you can look at the Vision as messed up size changing, not only does he not grow in size, he also...

Re: LEgend of Korra Book 3 Talkback - "Changes" (Spoilers)

Well at this point I've seen the first 6 episodes of the season and it looks pretty good. King Robert isn't one to care much one way or the other about things, as long as he gets to whore, drink and fight. Jon Arryn, however, might be amenable to good ideas. It might be useful to have an indifferent, drunk king on the throne. That's pretty much my thoughts on the matter. Robert doesn't ...

Re: Super powers and mass, matter and energy

Well I figure Vision's density powers are "messed up" size changing as implied in the panel. Suppose that Vision is locked in terms of his volume (cause Ultron couldn't duplicate the process properly), so when he tries to grow he gains the mass that comes with it, but doesn't change his ov...

Re: Super powers and mass, matter and energy

As to your discussion on size increasing, you wouldn't necessarily want bones to get substantially denser as that means they becomes stiffer and more subject to fracture. Given all the fighting that size changing heroes tend to get into, it wouldn't be the best situation for them. Honestly, they'd n...
