Re: Starship Troopers Remake in planning.
The Powered Suits are also less well received than the original designs done for the second Japanese release of the book. The book designs by Naoyuki Kato (that's his recent design) is different from Kazutaka Miyatake's redesign for the 1988 OVA. Poking around Kato's site, it seems he's done some i...

Would the price of gold/platinum/whatever necessarily fall? Asteroid miners would basically be a cartel, and could constrict the supply however they please.

Re: Everyday life on a Chaos ocupied world
I recall one description where there was a sacrificial altar at the edge of an open-air temple, with a long line of sacrifices lined up to be killed at the altar. When killed, they were dumped off into a pit, where they got up again and rejoined the queue. That stuck with me as just emblematic of t...

Speaking to supporters in Chillicothe, Ohio on Friday, the former Pennsylvania senator explained that the U.S. had “transformed the world” with the a new form of government. “In the previous 2,000 years, life did not change,” he said. “And then America came around and said, ‘No, no more dictators, ...

Re: Beautiful ugly spaceships
The camouflage of this pirate ship is useless against the powerful sensors of her attacker. Valuable spice leaks out, as the ship drifts lifelessly away from the scene of a conflict. http://i.imgur.com/qiGdL.jpg More of Foss' designs here . I think there's a lot to be said for spaceships which move...

that trailer really gained nothing by blurting out all that expository dialogue/text. "THIS IS THEIR PLAN"; "THIS IS HOW WE'LL FIGHT THEM".

Re: The new Mechwarrior isn't dead
I would say Battletech has way more bad designs than good. Fans have rallied around these machines that employ blocky structures and restricted joints as if they mean something more than just primitivism and lack of design work. They say this is clunky and unworkable, therefore it must be realistic...

I have not been impressed with some of the coverage of the riots. Check this video out.

Ridley Scott's Prometheus
Remember that Alien prequel everyone was so excited about? :v This never happens. Ridley Scott had been working on the Alien prequel, working happily and playing with ideas. He was talking to actors and he had a script from Damon Lindelof. Except that what he had wasn’t the Alien prequel, but someth...

Check out the "The Berlin is spotted" screenshot above.
You can see the Berlin itself in the upper-left, coming right at us. I can't make out any physical connection between the main hull and the wing-thingies.

If you go to that miniatures page and look at the Augsburg , you can see that the "wings" on the Berlin -type flagships are separate (presumably unmanned) ships flying in formation with them, which is something I never noticed in the original series. Thanks for this tremendous thread, Vymp...

Finally, the sequel to District 9! Watching the trailer, I notice they show an alien ship getting shot down. It'd be strange to show parts of the final "humans win" scene in a trailer, so hopefully that's an early success or surprise attack before it becomes obvious that the humans are goi...

Re: 6 years later, John Carmack admits noone could see Doom
Every time I hear some fanboy claim that Doom was the scariest game ever I still laugh though. You found 2D sprites scary? Really? Perhaps the blockiness of the sprites was scary? The only FPS game I found a little bit scary was the original Half-life and even that was not really scary. Half-life w...
