Re: BBC America Greenlights "CSI: Ankh-Morpork"

Nah, she's been calling them out on twitter for ages. I guess one reason im not as angry as everyone else is that I thought the previous discworld adaptions, while faithful, were stodgy and boring. I hope this is better, as well as different. Indeed. From what little I've read of the series, making...

Re: Plot to Kidnap Michigan Governor, Start Civil War

I couldn't even be a Biden thing. It would take a generation of effort, if only to slowly erode their sympathy within law enforcement.

Re: COVID-19 ongoing thread part 2

IIRC, Nixon used to get drunk and order nuclear attacks. So the authority to do so is not absolute. That's because Defense Secretary James Schlessinger told the staff at the White House to send every order through him. I doubt there's anyone in this regime with that kind of character. From what I r...

Re: Plot to Kidnap Michigan Governor, Start Civil War

And let's face it, I've said a bunch of things that could be construed as advocating terrorism when anger and frustration gets the better of me. I wouldn't want to get hauled off by the police for it because someone got the wrong idea, or worse, saw it as an opportunity to justify their budget with...

There will be some suggesting that the FBI 'lead them on' and acted as agents provocateuses, because they had people on the inside, turning 'innocent talk' into action.
Makes sense. Haven't they a track record of doing similar things with other organisations?

It says that they could have mic cutting. Nothing solid yet.

As I understand it, they need both campaigns' agreement on a rule like that.

Probably true. On the other hand, he knows good debaters, and if Trump doesn't slope off and coward out of having another go, Biden's going to have time to prepare for another go. We may yet not be disappointed. He had all the time in the world to prepare for this one. So I don't see why he would m...

A good debater would have done that. But I don't think Biden is that good a debater, based on last night and the primaries.

It was also said at Notre Dame, a Catholic college. Why wouldn't she, at a catholic founded, and private college, not make a reference to the Catholic faith? If she had said this at some other law school that wasn't catholic funded/run, then yeah, that's a sign. That's more than a "reference to the...

I certainly took issue with her portrayal of Mandos as utterly indomitable, but I largely agree regarding reassigning clones as special forces capable of causing enormous casualties. Not only does it match the scale, it also matches the fact that they were trained for ten years . But, of course, sh...

It might honestly be better to offer Trump some sort of immunity deal in return for him promising not to stir up trouble if the election result doesn't go his way, because if he tells the militiabros and their sympathisers in law-enforcement to make like Earl Turner they'll do it, and the Biden Adm...

65 years since the courts released the guys who killed Emmet Till. That's certainly something. Wanton endangerment for blind firing into nearby apartments when he panicked. None of his bullets hit Taylor. So dry-wall is more worthy of legal protection than a black woman -that's Kentucky for you. The...

When a generation of Americans learned about politics from Sorkin's West Wing, this kind of fatuous thinking is to be expected.

More to the point, there are a significant number of voters (chiefly the Catholic Republican bloc) that votes Republican in an effort to have abortion outlawed, but agree with essentially none of their other positions, viewing abortion as an overriding issue. Take away that wedge issue, and that pa...

From what I recall, around here it was a mixture of the cardinal sin of minimalism, and not bringing the milwank so many people wanted.

Being a woman probably didn't help it a lot either as this place was awash in angsty teenagers.

It's funny seeing so many think it's a "gotcha" moment pointing out Republican hypocrisy on nominating in an election year. Do people expect it to work, as though Republicans are going to go "Oh right, we did say that" and then wait a while? Impeachement isn't a Biden decison if he wins, its an acti...

I'm sure blocking off road access declaring a curfew are all good signs. In this case however this sounds semi-smart since the new news is them blocking road access since the crowd keeps getting into the road and people are only to happy to drive a car into a crowd these days. Too bad they didn't h...

If the federal government pulls it's funding from NYC, whatever that means, does the city still have to pay federal taxes?

On impeachment, would Biden and his team be up for such a thing even if they had solid majorities?

Re: SUPERTHREAD: 2020 United States Elections

Blame the lousy state of American education for that. The big event of Lincoln's administration was of course the Civil War, so most curricula focus on that and if the Homestead Act gets a mention at all it's from the "this helped people settle the West" angle. Frankly the situation is that when it...

The Republican Party began with Abraham Lincoln and ended with Donald trump. The long decline began during the civil rights era when party ideologies began changing as the Dixiecrats abandoned the Democratic Party and eventually joined and subverted the Republican Party. Sorry for the slow reply. I...
