Re: Roger Ebert dies at 70
To be fair, a lot of critics lose their minds when a few touchy subjects are issued, 9/11 being one of particular touchiness given that many of them actually live in New York City. I'm not going to pretend Ebert was immune from that, see his review of Kick-ass.

Re: Roger Ebert dies at 70
I'm not seeing how he's a hack because he liked one more than the other and decided to compare them. If you read his review of TF2, you'll see that he loves Bay's visual sense and then goes on to talk more about it. You're picking two movies and judging his entire career on them. I think, deep down...

Re: Roger Ebert dies at 70
Liking a critic more because you agree with their views is silly anyway. Reviews that show informed and reasoned contrary viewpoints are probably more useful, certainly for those trying to expand their tastes. Not necessarily. I try to read reviews by critics who agree with my tastes so I can make ...

Re: Roger Ebert dies at 70
RIP Roger Ebert. His smearing of Armond White as a "troll" (White had committed the unpardonable sin of not chewing the cud and following the critic herd) was petty and stupid. I don't think White is a 'troll' in the sense that Ebert was using, given that they came from two completely diff...

Also, I smirked at your "it makes the more intelligent members of his fanbase happy". Just lol. You accuse me of making dumb internet arguments (which is a fair point, though I was exaggerating for my own sake) then flip to the other side with "It's for the smart people" Dude, I...

Re: Early Birthday Present: Turntable/Recorder
MP3's are indistinguishable from the real thing as long as you don't attempt to "enhance" it or clean up worn-down old records like that. I got something like that for my father a while back. If you want to digitally clean up old stuff, you're far better off using a lossless format for the...

Re: The End of the Nostalgia Critic...and he's BACK
I feel kinda sorry for Doug Walker. It's obvious Demo Reel was his "passion project", and it was getting better, albeit slowly, but it looks like it failed too hard right off the bat to ever pick up steam again. Here's the thing:Production on TGWTG shows are shit. But when it's just a man ...

Re: John Stewart's American Privilege History Lesson
Maybe he was smart when he was young, and pickled his brain over the years. Maybe he took degrees that are a lot easier than you might think, or at least require good bullshit skills but little in the way of logic. Who knows? Either way, he says remarkably stupid things on a regular basis, and they...

Re: Favorite Hans Zimmer score/theme.
The Rock is my single most favorite movie of all time, and there is no denying for me that a huge part of that is the score. That shit held me together through hours upon hours of late-night studying while I was still an undergrad.

Re: The Legend of Korra: Book 1 Finale Talkback (Spoilers)
That was pretty awesome. I was extremely surprised at the dark ending for Tarrlok and..."Amon". It was pretty brutal, but but also made sense. I liked that The Lieutenant turned on him once learning the truth, as he was easily just as fanatical as Amon. General Iroh was an amazingly badass...

Re: Legend of Korra "The Revelation" Talkback (Spoilers)
And on lighter notes: Paku is clearly the Momo to Naga's Appa. Mako and Bolin's backstory has a very eerie similarity to Amon's claimed backstory (hmmm), and the whole thing of losing his parents at age eight to a (Firebending) mugger screams of being a Batman homage. And one wonders if Mako's real...

Never heard of Prison Planet either, until I clicked on it. One look at the banner.

All Bolding mine. Our polling on the birth control issue We've had a lot of people asking us this week if we've done any polling about the birth control issue. We did a national survey for Planned Parenthood last weekend. Here are the key things we found: -56% of voters generally support the birth c...

He also just took a shot across the bow of the Republicans by mentioning Cordray and the Consumer protection agency. Elizabeth Warren should be head of CFPB (and we could all short WRLD ) if there were any testicles at all in this administration. Cordray is more than talented and qualified to lead ...

You are aware that the first film is "You Are (Not) Alone" and the second "You Can (Not) Advance", right? Of course I am, I just hadn't heard the name of the third one, and was shocked at how it so easily lends credence to the hypothesis I posted earlier. That said, It's also be...

Re: ATTN: anime people RE: End of Evangelion
Yeah I might watch the rebuild films, maybe in like a year when I have some emotional distance from the original. Because right now, from all the descriptions in this thread, it just sounds like a complete bastardisation of the characters. Though I think I can see why it would appeal to people. Dep...

Re: ATTN: anime people RE: End of Evangelion
With Eva as an examination of both Anno's mental state and his general feelings towards Otaku in general, I'd recommend giving the Rebuild films a try. Some have complained that the characters are too much more normal, but this seems like an intentional reflection of Anno's current mental state, whi...

Re: DragonBall Z abridged
DBZ Abridged for me, since the introduction of LittleKuriboh's take on Freeza (which made him actually scary) went from being a damn good Abridged Series, to a significantly better and funnier Shonen show than DBZ or DBZ Kai. Like, when was the last time a fan parody did that? Never, that's when. :P

Re: what are the most powerful moments in video games?
You must build up attachments to your virtual people before you can start slamming us with emotional moments. Show don't tell is the operative word, and the more fantastical the setting the more human you must make the characters. THIS I agree with a lot of the ones mentioned here, including the Ha...

There was a Palestinian Family down the street from my Parents house(in Northern Virginia) who were literally setting off firecrackers in celebration on the morning of 9/11. One of my former roommates, a friend of mine, attempted suicide a few years back (a combo of slashing his wrists and consuming large amounts of painkillers). Thankfully, he failed and they were able to pump his stomach. It would turn out later that he was bi-polar. It hit me pretty hard, as I had no...

Didn't they do that movie already with "HANCOCK" ? I can't say, I've never seen it. Heard there was some ludicrously stupid twist where he lost his powers if he ever got near his girlfriend, though. That's pretty much it. The movie was great up until that dumbass twist. It's like the firs...

My personal favorite was "the hammer got nailed."
As for actual punishment? My hope is that he'd get at least 5-10 years, but I'd settle for 1-3. But yeah, likely to just get probation and all, the bastard.
