Re: Ep7 Reviews (Spoilers)
This topic has been gone over a lot. My understanding is that yes, they are different systems, but I don't see how it violates physics any more than hyperspace or the Force does. Wait, I understand the giant laser travels through hyperspace but the blowing up of the planets? I can handwave the idea...

Re: Ep7 Reviews (Spoilers)
Just so we're clear, the planet where the crew meets Maz Kanata is in a different system than the Republic planets that were destroyed by the Starkiller base right? Did JJ just blatantly violate another law of physics? Because I'd imagine that it would take several years for light from one system to...

Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens
John Boyega came off as trying too hard to me. Best character there was definitely Rey by Daisy Ridley. McGregor doesn't really shine until Episode 2 and 3 but he's still my favorite Star Wars actor. My biggest beef with TFA was how recycled the story was and that has a big impact as to how I judge...

Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens
....indeed I also care very much about world building and plot consistency - it's just that to me, the core element of Star Wars was always just fun characters going on an exciting space adventure. And that's basically exactly what TFA is. It's not so much about the lack of world building that both...

Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens
After seeing it twice and digesting the film for a couple of days, I am leaning towards ranking it on the same level as Episode 1. Its strengths and weaknesses are almost a mirror opposite to the Phantom Menace. While its execution (in terms of acting and writing) were superior, its story was unori...

Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens
William's work wasn't that notable this time around either. I can't point to a particular unique melody that encapsulates the film. He was much better at it in the Prequel trilogy, particularly with Duel of the Fates and Battle of Heroes.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens
I think it was a bit underwhelming for me for some reason. I know everyone basically says it's better than the Prequel trilogy. And while I think it was superior to my least favorite film, Attack of the Clones, I thought it was subpar compared to one of my favorites, Revenge of the Sith, which was a...

Re: Russia launching airstrikes in Syria
Considering that Syria is Russia's only ally in the middle east, it seems to me that their involvement is to merely protect their middle east assets. Wouldn't a successful dismantling of Assad's regime be a major blow to Russian influence in the region? Could be the US' real end game regardless of a...

Re: Breaking news SCOTUS rules for Gay marriage
I don't really have much to add other than to express how happy I am. After all the years of hard work - all those countless days of canvassing, organizing, marching and researching - paid off in the end. I will be enjoying the schadenfreude when the right-wing/anti-gay lobby starts shrieking.

Re: Ireland votes to legalize gay marriage
Well, many strippers may have gotten into their jobs for a variety of reasons beyond their control and there are multiple avenues of possible solutions to such exploitation. On the other hand, I don't really see a healthy alternative to a gay, lesbian or bisexual individual embracing their sexual o...

Re: Ireland votes to legalize gay marriage
To be fair being gay like being a stripper is harmful behavior...........because others make it to be. Gay people get, and pardon this word and I don't mean bashed, "fag bashed" by homophobic haters. They are physically attacked for being gay. Even when they aren't being physically punish...

Re: Ireland votes to legalize gay marriage
As to your question, I would never encourage people to be comfortable with harmful behavior. I'll use myself as an example, I LOVE tits, BUT I haven't been in a strip club in a couple years because I recognize that is is unhealthy both for me AND for the strippers. In a better world, they'd go brok...

Re: First canon LGBT coming soon
You People (by which I mean straight people) get to sit around in your Privilege (which you need to check, by the way) and think that having a shitload of heteronormative relationships and imagery is "asexual". It is not. There is nothing asexual about that metal bikini (In fact, Jabba an...

Re: It's official. Driest year in the history of California
Toronto lol - believe it or not, we usually don't get all that much snow when compared to Buffalo and New York City, so when a big storm comes it's a bit of a shock. And this year we had the first severe ice storm since 1998. Of course, this came after a summer of record rainfall and flooding lol T...

Who honestly, truly believes this guy gives a flying fuck about state rights? Either he's pandering to his bigoted base or he himself is also a bigoted fuckwad. I'm leaning toward bigot pandering to bigots, personally. If he gave a damn about state rights he'd also fight the things that give conser...

It looks like the 10th Circuit Court denied them a stay as well. They could appeal it to the Supremes I guess but they probably won't have much luck with convincing Sotomayor.

Re: Blast from Past - 1968 - 20% approve mixed race marrriag
You know that there were attempts at US Constitutional in the early part of the 20th Century banning mixed race marriages. I didn't say there weren't any voter initiatives aimed at other minorities. I said they didn't happen nearly as often as the ones targeting the LGBT demographic. And US constit...

Re: Blast from Past - 1968 - 20% approve mixed race marrriag
One other interesting thing to note is that no other minority have been targeted by voter initiatives as nearly as often as the LGBT community. That tactic has gone a long way to slowing down LGBT rights. There's even an upcoming one targeting trans students next year in California. It's absolutely ...

Re: Half a great Gay Rights Bill
The Human Rights Campaign is a huge example of advocates for gay rights actively campaigning against trans rights, just for one example. I wouldn't say that HRC actively campaigns against trans rights. That would be coming from the anti-LGBT organizations like NOM or FRC. But HRC has been known to ...

Re: Illinois next state to go fabulous
On top of the fact that Terry McAuliffe was elected over Cuccinelli, I'm giddy over how NOM's been virtually losing every major electoral, legislative and court battle (with exception to North Carolina) for the past 4 years. Here's to hoping the Hawaii comes out as the 16th state to legalize marriag...
