Re: How to protest the scrapping of net neutrality
Isn't this a lawsuit waiting to happen basing on... dunno, for the lack of anything other in mind... the first amendment? Limiting the freedom of expression and press?

Re: Titanfall: I don't get the hype
Forbes (snip) Forbes published a review of Bioshock Infinite in which the author outright stated that he didn't understand the plot and therefore it was awesome. I stopped paying attention to what they write about games after that. Still, I had a good laugh, so I guess I came out with a positive ex...

Re: Do not play State of Decay (zombie survival game)
That's because the world can't maintain itself - that is the underlying problem. In State of Decay you are playing god who sheperds a bunch of lemmings through trouble, but takes occasional breaks, leaving the lemmings to their own devices (and they die). The focus is wrong: your goal is to maintain...

Re: Do not play State of Decay (zombie survival game)
I thought the idea of randomised, persistent world where stuff happens and is not centered on the player or upon linear 100% completion was perhaps the only interesting thing about this game. They botched a few things, but otherwise it is a way more interesting game than any other open world "s...

Re: LOTR - Shadows of Mordor
Combat mechanics, in the sense I was talking about are a subset of the total combat system that refers to purely the actual mechanical part of how combat actions are handled. As in, what you would call a core rule set for combat. This means among other things the list of various actions available t...

Re: LOTR - Shadows of Mordor
I am not sure what AC is. But you only need look so far as say Mount and Blade for rather decent combat mechanics. Oh boy, this is one of the most broken games ever. It was broken and boring back in 2008, and I doubt they fixed anything since Warband came out. I have only ever plaid warband but I c...

Re: LOTR - Shadows of Mordor
I've already given up on a good choice-consequence or plan-execution game, because it won't sell. Fatty nerds want to feel empowered and cool, which is one of the reasons AC combat is "press left mouse to win". I only hope that the combat mechanics will be decent and it will present at lea...

Re: Tablet revolution
You can create a local account. And frankly, I wish more of the system settings would get tied into the cloud account. It is very convenient when reinstalling the system to just synchronize using the online account. Also, passwords that are stored on servers are not visible even to server administra...

Re: Tablet revolution
That's actually the first positive feedback I've heard about Win8. I find it to be such a disaster, but I knew there had got to be a degree of unfamiliarity playing into it. What do you like the most about it? Maybe I can try to sell her on some of those features. It also feels really slow so if yo...

Re: Has anybody tried an Oculus Rift?
At work we borrowed the devkit from the Witcher guys for a couple of days. It is a neat gizmo, I tried it with whatever I could get my hands on (mostly Unity demos). The stereoscopy was pretty well done, the kit was light and didn't cause any nausea at all. But whatever you do, don't get the devkit,...

Guess you never heard of Ferrari Enzo then.
But the point is valid, Corvette ZR-1 is a supercar. A cheap one, but a supercar nonetheless.

Re: Are there any American super cars?
Dude, you got Saleen. One of the most vicious, brutal and down-to-the-bone American supercars of all time. The S7 Twin Turbo produces 750 bhp with a max speed of 400 km/h (248 mph). 0-60 in 2.8 seconds. And it is made in California, with the engine being a bored Ford Windsor small block. This car co...

Killing the myth of Chernobyl
I recently found this article on the net (again). I remember reading it in 2006 and being quite deeply moved by it. So when I stumbled upon this yesterday I decided to translate it into English for your benefit, since I guess you can't get a more hands-on account on what was happening in Poland when...

They require 6GB of Ram and a 1GB GPU, but at the same time support the Iris Pro HD5200? These requirements were put together by accountants.

I do second that. And I work with WINE and Mac games on a daily basis at GOG.com. Trust me, stick to gaming on Windows. Linux gaming is for hobbyists who take more pleasure in setting up the games than playing them. Indie gaming is big on OS X mostly due to the wondrous Unity engine, which is multip...

Re: I bought an ex-display laptop
If you plan to use it for games, stay away from Linux, no matter what people are telling you. Trust me, you don't want to be in that kind of hell, no matter what the open source proponents are preaching. If its for casual browsing only, I guess you can install Ubuntu or Mint and be done with it. Get...

Re: ARMA 3 Released
The biggest problem with the OFP series is that they were never really big about any kind of gameplay. It's a piece of software that sells entertainment through immersion and immersion only. It was fine in 2001, but in 2013 that is kinda crap.

Re: ARMA 3 Released
The infantry controls are much better this time, to the point of actually being playable. And 22 years after Catacomb 3D did it mostly right no less. UI is still abysmal and basic things like opening doors is just impossible. It doesn't matter though, because AI can't use buildings AT ALL. The world...

Re: Space sim fans: X Rebirth FINALLY has a release date
The big question is, whether finally the game will not be boring. Good looking locations and ambient traffic are nothing new, but didn't get a proper appearance in any space game before. Problem is, the basic idea of being a space trader is just amazingly boring - haul X cargo to Y destination for Z...

Re: Less women in the job market, better wages for men?
Yes, but halving the workforce does not mean that the rest gets their salaries doubled (and therefore, being able to suppport families all by themselves). Initially, with a higher demand for a worker, some wages might rise, but in the end, with less production capabilities, the overall economy will ...

Less women in the job market, better wages for men?
I've heard it from my friends. Seriously, with a straight face. They said it. That was part of their opinion on why gender equality is wrong - that before "equal job opportunities" men earned enough to support themselves and their families, and that when women entered the job market, the f...
