Re: The Board Members You Miss Thread
Nice to hear from you, old man. :) So, this discord thingy isn't just for talking? I've always only used it for team chat while gaming with friends. It seems that the SDN Discord is quite active, am I right? Thank you. It's good to hear from you as well and everyone else. Like Elheru said the text ...

Re: The Board Members You Miss Thread
I miss when this place was alive. There was always this person who was an actual expert on stuff. Darth Wong on engineering, Kamikaze Sith when it came to police matters in the US, Coffee and his stories about flooring, Seraphina, Duchess of Zeon and others taught me a lot about transgender people ...

Re: Conflict erupts at Minneapolis, L.A. protests over George Floyd death
Unfortunately, the idea that someone can breath just because they are talking to you is still widespread in law enforcement. On that note https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/509707-video-shows-ark-police-saying-if-you-can-talk-you-can-breathe-before-man That brings back memories. I had a teach...

Re: Conflict erupts at Minneapolis, L.A. protests over George Floyd death
Unfortunately, the idea that someone can breath just because they are talking to you is still widespread in law enforcement. I thought after Eric Gardner this would have been corrected but after speaking at length with individuals from multiple agencies I was mistaken. There needs to be a strong tra...

Re: Federal Law Enforcement Use Unmarked Vehicles To Grab Protesters Off Portland Streets
Thanks for the info, Formless. I was not aware that these incidents had already been looked into and found that there was a jurisdictional issue. That's very serious but honestly not surprising. I was about to say that this is what we expect in Trump's America but it's also fair to say that US law e...

Re: Conflict erupts at Minneapolis, L.A. protests over George Floyd death
Many groups are pointing to the newly released video as evidence that George Floyd was not compliant. That's true. He wasn't. However, none of that has any impact on the absolute disregard Chauvin had for Floyd's life as he knelt on his neck for 8 minutes with him being quiet for two of those minutes.

Re: Federal Law Enforcement Use Unmarked Vehicles To Grab Protesters Off Portland Streets
There are factors that can influence when someone can be arrested without a warrant but usually it is permissible if a subject is being arrested by the investigating agency and via that investigation they have developed probable cause for an arrest - typically when members of the investigating agenc...

Good for them. Maybe it will keep the white supremacists out as well.

Re: Conflict erupts at Minneapolis, L.A. protests over George Floyd death
But perhaps the most interesting case of all is the city that disbanded its police department... and it wasn't because of funding, it wasn't lawsuits, and it wasn't an external investigation by a higher level government agency. The city's police department was beyond reform... so they got rid of th...

Re: Robot Overlords Seize Control of Utah('s surveillance network)
https://www.sltrib.com/news/politics/2020/03/11/salt-lake-city-police/ Salt Lake City Police Chief Mike Brown announced Wednesday that the department would not provide any data to Banjo, a secretive technology company with a cozy relationship with the Utah Attorney General’s Office. SLCPD tends to s...

Re: General Police Abuse Thread
Update - Officer Aaron Dean, the officer who shot Atatiana Jefferson in her home, was arrested and booked on a charge of murder Monday evening. He was later released on a $200,000 bond. Some highlights on this officer is he has only been a cop since April of 2018 and he has not been cooperative with...

Re: General Police Abuse Thread
It's one of those sum-totality things. Both the resident's cars are in driveway, the lights are on. It's just... the front door is open, with the screen door shut. I would not think that a reasonable officer would then conclude that there is reasonable suspicion of a burglary - just a spooked neigh...

1. For a wellness check, you're not typically in fucking stealth mode? Or shouldn't be. It would depend on what observations you make and what information you receive. A wellness check because a door is left open could be a burglary. Caution is advisable. However, this applies both ways. Unless you...

Re: General Police Abuse Thread
In reality, no - at least not outside of very small communes. In theory, this is what all ideologies seek, but few can articulate a form of or path to. Anarchistic frames require it as a baseline, though, but they also exclude police as we currently understand them. The fact that few can even artic...

Re: General Police Abuse Thread
As I mentioned, I don't actually hold the position that all cops are bastards. At the end of the day, to an anarchist, you're going to be a bastard no matter how benevolent the state is, because they view the state as inherently unjust and never mind the fact that our technological society would co...

Re: General Police Abuse Thread
Is anyone going to talk about the elephant in the room -- that namely more and more police departments are requiring an ever increasing amount of college credits to simply get hired? Is there a story on this that breaks down the numbers? My opinion might be unpopular but I think college is a good i...

I've disclosed quite enough about what I do, thanks. I offer even that much only as a courtesy. Understood. Now, the crux of the logical anarchist position that ACAB/Some Cops Are Okay (individually) But They All Serve The State, Which Is a Bastard, is basically this: 1. The State is a system(s) of...

I think it's you coming in with a cop attitude, yeah. By the way - you threw the first personal insult. I said your position was dumb as shit, which is not, in fact, an insult. LOL, Ok. You have some serious biases if you think this is a "cop thing". If you don't intend to be insulting th...

I have never seen someone actually suppor...
