It was working fine for me in November. I found comprehensive care for ~$100 a month that is now in effect.

Re: Research on 18th cent. Smithery/mechanics help

Masters didn't train apprentices for free unless they were family. Those apprentices coming in from outside would pay a hefty amount of money to the master to cover the costs of training the apprentice (room & board, botched material, etc.). Apprentices would be doing the rote drudge work of the...

Re: Let's Play UFO: Aftermath

The Los Angeles and Houston bases were dumbfounded at the silence from LaCroix and the department heads hastily drew up plans, figuring they'll deal with him when he decided to make new plans. "Get the In-Base Transport project going. It'll be fast and we won't lose time with it." "Ge...

Re: Let's Play UFO: Aftermath

The atmosphere in Ft. Good Hope was heavy as Phoenix Company laid its first casualty to rest. Given the paucity of men, a recording of "Taps" was going to have to do for Wolfgang. "All gave some, some gave all. Some stood through for the red, white and blue . . " "Hey! I tho...

Re: What If the New Deal Never Happenned

Also, recovery would have been a lot slower without the New Deal's abandoning the gold standard. The faster a country was off the gold standard, the faster its recovery from the depression as the governments could then freely devalue the excess money and get it out of the market to where prices coul...

Re: Let's Play UFO: Aftermath

Afterblank is much more forgiving than XCOM in soldier casualties (we also had a bit of a bumper crop thanks to the Goodwill Mission). It also helps that transgenants typically don't shoot to kill.

Well, you wanted to be a scout. :P

Also, it doesn't help you're near the front of the group and thus you're on the front lines for the close encounters of the suicide bomber kind.

COE BASE DENVER Gumbo came into the armory after a 36 hour romp in the mountains with the scouting instructors. While the "accelerated course" took a toll on the body, Gumbo did find that he was better at spotting and remaining hidden as well as able to move faster. Looking at the growing...

COE BASE HOUSTON January 3, 2005 It took two days, but the scientists managed to get the current radar systems to detect any UFOs that may be overhead. Their range is limited, however, given that the UFOs have some sort of stealth technology as the returns are faint and the techs need to squint to ...

On May 25, 2004, a giant spacecraft approached the earth. Silent, it hovered ominously over the world and began to release great clouds of spores into the upper atmosphere. Rapidly multiplying, the spores soon darkened the skies, and before long obscured the sun completely. In later days, this peri...

Let's Play UFO: Aftermath

There's a thought going through my fevered brain and it has found root in a glorious concept. Another Let's Play! Rather than the XCOM games, I decided to do one of its spiritual successors: UFO After[blank] series. Why? Because Kikoskia got me hooked on it and I have the urge to one-up the little g...

If I knew the background as a young college sophomore, I would have felt more pity than disgust in reading the poem.

Re: Biggest Epic Fails in History

2) The Charge of the Light Brigade. I don't think this one needs an explanation. The Charge of the Light Brigade was not that much an epic fail in reality. The Light Brigade was ordered to engage an artillery unit that was withdrawing, something light cavalry was very good at doing with their speed...
