While getting a supreme court judge unseated or adding seats is something you need to rely on the representatives, you can do your part to "unstack" the courts at lower levels, local, district and appellate.... https://youtu.be/w6zSWkteRJY Citizens brigade of court watchers. @Sidewinder Making swords is a thing of it's own, I don't know how many heat treat ovens I have built until I finally settled on the one I use now... It's nice&easy to make wallhangers, but once you want them to be functional (like in HEMA training), there is a big jump in precision heattreating nee...

Re: Brexit and not very united kingdom politics II

Brexit is mostly about those Tories wanting to align the UK with the US from a "mere" special relationship to what is effectively a 51st state. Yeah, but it is going top be something even less of a 51st state than Puerto Rico, and ask them how their financial situation with their overlord looks lik...

Re: Brexit and not very united kingdom politics II

You forgetting one small detail -all the free trade with Non-EU states is via EU treaties... Brexit means they go back to WTO terms, worldwide. They are jeeting all their trade off the cliff (apart from Switzerland and a few smaller countries), and then want to become a trade vassal state to the US ...

The red herring of the trade deal is still in effect. The deal was supposed to be finalized before the transition period. The transition period was supposed to be a 20 month period to implement the necessary protocols, infrastructure and to train people. They already have declared that they intend t...

Even European Countries like France Germany and the UK have police forces. They aren't going away for better or ill. I suggest you brush up on the European police model. Our officers are disciplined and sometimes getting fired for even drawing their guns if not absolutely necessary. Drawing. Firing...

Re: Trump threatens to shut down social media platforms after Twitter tags his posts as misinformation.

That reminds me of the fact that Facebook has a function to filter out nazi content - they need that for Germany, where this kind of hatespeech is illegal. They could not activate this in the US, for this algorythm was unable to differentiate between nazi hatespeech and the things GOP politicians sa...

The only one (kind of) impacted by this would be Bezos, since Amazon is pretty much a retailer of chinese goods these days. And hurting Bezos would be a plus in Trumps book.

Out of curiosity, have their been situations where the invasive species came from North America rather than the other way around? Cause it seems to me like their species are just flat out weaker than their competitors, hence why they are prone to getting wiped out. Yeah - the invasive species game ...

UK is tracking very well with Italy. NHS über alles. Shouldn't NHS not have shortages of PPE, since it's a government run organisation and can plan ahead for pandemics and not have to nickel and dime like US hospital administrators? The NHS has been gutted almost beyond repair in the last decade by...

Re: Hungarian democracy dies with thunderous applause

Today, there was a statment by the hungarian embassy. The hungarian constitution mandates that emergency decrees by the prime minister can only last for 15 days, period. After that, they need a law to extend the emergency powers for either a set duration, the end of crisis, or all decrees are immedi...

Right now, he has taken emergency powers for the duration of a crisis. Lot's of governments have done that, the US and UK included.

Until he starts abusing those, there is no need to intervene. For now, we watch closely.

Re: Hungarian democracy dies with thunderous applause

Orban is losing power gradually - he started out with 2/3rds majority, and is now just at 50%+. A lot of things he has done has gradually eroded his support, and only the fact that his latest contender sponenously self destructed himself by doing crazy stuff he did hold on to the majority. Even now,...

Yeah, this sucks... Me and my Hungarian friends are adopting a wait and see stance, for now. HE did need two attempts to pass this law, the first try was soundly defeated, even with a lot of votes by his Party (the current majority). So there is a base reluctance in Parliament to let him have this. This talk about Trumps approval rating is a moot point.
By September, not only will the death toll and the personal experience of people change their view of him drasticly, but the whole electorate will most likely look very different to what it looks now.
