Re: Math unit conversion question
I think it can work. A newton is the equivalent to the force acting on 0.102 kilograms at 1 g, so a kilonewton should be equivalent to 1020 kilograms at 1 g, or 1.02 tonnes at 1 g; that is to say that by the definition used in the second table, it's 1.02 tonnes of thrust (since that table defines a ...

Re: Math unit conversion question
Are these tables online anywhere? I'm not sure if the two can be compared effectively without a bit more massaging — "kilonewtons" is a unit of force, and "tonnes" is a measure of mass ( not weight). Back in school, our Physics teacher told us not to confuse the two, or else the...

Math unit conversion question
In comparing two tables of rocket engines, one lists fuel consumption in grams per kilonewton second (g/kn*s) while the other is in tonnes per tonne-hour (Mg/Mg*h). I think I've figured out the conversion between the two, but it's been a while since I've done anything physics-related, so could someo...

I've read the first three TPBs. Ever since Whiteout and Queen & Country, he's been on my must-read list.

I fixed it by doing the obvious thing I hadn't done - un-installing and re-installing the drivers for the ethernet card. No clue why it worked, but it did.

Desktop not finding internet
I moved last month, and just had a chance to start testing my electronics this week. My new complex is on FiOS, and I have a hybrid router for both wired and wireless service. The wireless is working perfectly. The wired connection is being a PITA. There was a bad wire that got replaced today. My la...

Re: Federation (Trek) vs Systems Alliance (Mass Effect)
That puts mass effect FTL (without using relays) at over 4000c, which is definitely competitive with warp drive: somewhere between warp 7 and warp 8, by my estimates. If it's exactly 12 light years per day, it's 4380c, which is somewhere over Warp 9 on the TNG/VOY revised scale (about Warp 16.36 on...

Re: Armour of Game of Thrones (TV show)
I thinkit boils down to economics of South vs North when you get to armor. Plate takes a lot of blacksmithing skills to hammer the shapes and make them fit comfortably. It takes a lot of time to do, and longer to learn how to do it properly so the edges don't catch. Larger pieces sometimes need wat...

Fans have been puzzling over Mac & his pub since the first book. McAnally's isn't Mac-Anal-ley, btw; it'd be Ma-Kan-ah-lee. The question is, which Being out of Celtic mythology is that a tribute to? The best guesses so far are Manannán mac Lir or Arawn. There's one other one I haven't seen, and...

Probably. Killer Hands and Mystic Armor are adept powers from the 4e rulebook (page 188). Distance Strike, Quick Strike, and Traceless Walk are all adept powers from Awakenings (pages 117-118). So everything he mentioned is an existing adept power, despite his calling them spells. This is a gamepla...

I'm still waiting for that canon evidence making disruptors AM weapons as opposed to simply leaving behind AM when fired. Or your explanation for how they manage to do things that are physically impossible to do with an AM weapon. I'd also like to hear an explanation for what anti-protons have to d...

Or ... That someone used a name not from their ethnic background. Certainly, impossible to imagine! That is a good point, particularly for the Subatai part (I doubt cross-cultural names with nothing to do with a person's background were common in the 15th century, and the timing is right for Singh ...

Weisman Says: “Physical Adepts are more than mere martial artists, they are highly specialized spell casters with combat spells such as Killer Hands, Distance Strike, Mystic Armor, Traceless Walk, and Quick Strike.” Yea, um. The whole point of physical adepts was that they channeled their mana inwa...

I thought Julian was implied to be Indian in-universe? I'm fairly sure that they never established his ethnicity for certain in the series, probably to tie in with the genetically engineered aspect of his character. But if you go by the nationalities of Siddig and the actors who played his parents,...

I enjoyed it allthough 2 things bothered me 1. I hate how it took place in between A New Hope and Empire. There really wasn't any reason why they couldn't have made it before A New Hope. According to an article from Star Wars Inside #96, at the time of the OT, Stormtroopers were about 1/3 Fett clones.Batman wrote:And we know that by the time of the OT at the very latest, Stormies were no longer exclusively (possibly not even majorly or at all) clones.

By that logic, Abrams tanks carry nuclear weapons - when they fire a DU shell, it leaves extremely high levels of radiation (compared to the normal background count). Therefore, American tanks use nuclear weapons. Or you're a blithering idiot. What they would find would be uranium isotopes. And the...

No it's not. It's a technobabble weapon that leaves behind miniscule trace amounts of antimatter. Again you are reaching for some convoluted explanation to avoid the obvious. Data stated "extremely high levels" of antimatter were in the area. Riker honed in on that and stated... Romulan d...

Potentially the most useful single page for figuring what sort of damage MDC actually does comes from Coalition Navy . They use Tomahawk missiles with 200 kiloton nuclear warheads. These warheads deal 3d4x100 MD in a 1000 foot radius, and 1d4x100 MD to a 3 mile radius. Another weapon on the same pag...

Amusingly Gundam shows how easy it is to build your setting around a desired type of combat; Battletech didn't even bother. A NOTE ...
