Re: Earth With nBSG Technology

Could be still useful: I don't remember even seeing a spent case (at least from the small arms: would be strange seeing the spent shell getting ejected from the Vipers and the big guns), and if there's actually no spent case instead of me just not noticing they could be caseless weapons... And that'...

Re: What If: A War of Cloaked Vessels

After over a century of development from this setting's scenario. Aside for that, I think the Feddies could have somewhat of an advantage in this fight: 1)by this point, a number of Romulan ships are still the "Balance of Terror" BoP. That have a number of defects: fusion powered, so with less stayi...

Re: An unexpected party takes care of ISIS (RAR!)

The way I see it the trains still run on time, bread is still in the stores and those that don't rebel still aren't murdered regardless of who is in charge. Owen and Beru Lars (burned to death by Imperial troops for buying the two wrong droids) would like to disagree, and a certain group of Jawas (...

Re: An unexpected party takes care of ISIS (RAR!)

They'd need to know enough to maintain the gun and armour, not to repair a serious damage (unless the repair only consists in swapping the broken piece with a spare part). And that is taught easily enough.

As far I'm concerned, I'd join their military to escape whatever political and/or sociological collapse and the worst parts of the colonization I expect Earth to go through (like with pre-Columbian civilizations when the Conquistadors showed up or China when they found out they weren't all powerful ...

Re: The Galactic Empire invade the Star Gate Universe

They get conquered, fast: the only ships who may or may not give a Star Destroyer a run for its money are the Ori motherships and ships equipped with the latest Asgard weapons and shields, and there's a lot more Star Destroyers than those. The only thing (some) Stargate ships have a clear advantage ...

Re: Why are the Crusades such a big deal to the Muslim world

I think it all comes up to psychological damage: the Mongols may have done more MATERIAL damage than the Crusades, but the Europeans were the wake-up call, and where the Mongols broke up in different empires fairly quickly with two of them converting to Islam, the Europeans became stronger, stopped ...

Re: borg qouestions

Given the difference in explosion between the first and the second use of the photon torpedoes, my guess is that the adaptation is twofold: they adapted to the torpedoes' own shielding, and found a way to make them detonate prematurely and in a less efficient way. That could also finally explain wha...

Re: Quidditch or Pro-Bending season tickets

Depends on the situation. And note that the list of fouls isn't actually known in full to 'avoid giving people ideas'. According to the Harry Potter Wiki page on Quidditch , most of the unknown fouls are acts banned anyway by the rule forbidding to cast spells on members of the opposite team, and th...

Re: Quidditch or Pro-Bending season tickets

With Quidditch, I don't remember the rules anymore except that there is a super-fast flying thing called the Snitch that exists so that Harry could be good at the game without having to be a team player. Good luck remembering them all. They have SEVEN HUNDRED DIFFERENT FOULS (and in one game they m...

Pro-Bending. It's more interesting (even without the Snitch), and the former terrorists I could meet in the audience are less likely to kill me if they realize I have no special powers.

Re: borg qouestions

How do you adapt to torpedo fire anyway? Some trick to make it blow up away from your ship and shields. We have a number of countermeasures to trick the guidance system and point defence missiles and guns to just take them down, and in TBOBW the Borg showed what appeared to be the ability to detona...

A magnificent speech. And a good self-description for these Klingon. Media presenters turned to talking head professionals for their analysis and in the data net a thousand discussions threads popped into life. For days to come the Klingon question would dominate the 'net and the airwaves but all th...

A Catholic wedding (the one I'm most familiar with) requires five people (priest, bride, groom, and a pair of witnesses), yet humans have two genders. I dare say the four Andorian genders are just another brain bug.

I see this government has a good guess on how badly they would be outmatched if the Klingon were hostile, and has some sensible idea. Nice to see. "The last thing we need is some religious nutcase shooting a Klingon." Understatement of the year. These Klingon are more reasonable and friendly than TO...

My money is on either a Klingon ship using disruptor or a D-7 in Romulan service using torpedoes (that in the picture looked like lines due their speed and the distance involved).

Re: Reapers Vs Star Trek

I'd have a few observations about the weapons. First, Trek's energy weapons (or at least phasers and disruptors) appear to be some form of particle beam and have a mass. Once the shield is dropped they do most of their damage by disintegrating matter, whatever the mechanism is, but until them the Re...

Realistically speaking only real way to beat an alien invasion like this would be to show that they attacking aliens are already fighting a force about as strong as they are and humans only have make themselves too costly for conquest without making themselves too dangerous/annoying. Could I sugges...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but hadn't the longbows been decisive at Crecy and Poitiers because they killed the horses of the mounted knights, trapping them there for the post-battle mop up with knives?

Question that I have always wondered about, curious if anyone knows. Were the Narn the first race for the Vorlons to experiment with giving telepathic powers to use as weapons? Or were they the first younger race to develop mental powers and before this the Vorlons and their allies had never realiz...
