Re: Japan Tsunami Funds Aid Whaling Fleet
But it would make more sense to say, rebuild a town and while doing it take the opportunity to base the town on some other industry that won't inevitably result in the town having to be propped up by the government? That's a long term solution, and I'm sure they're putting money into that as well. ...

Re: Japan Tsunami Funds Aid Whaling Fleet
A few important things to remember here 1) The Japanese government has no authority over the millions of dollars of international charity donations, which are being handled by non-profit relief organizations, like the Japanese Red Cross. It's impossible for them to divert those funds. The funds for ...

Re: MythBusters Bust
The fact that it'd be such a perfect bit of footage for an episode on "This is why you shouldn't try this at home" makes me wonder exactly why it is that they're going out of their way to not use the footage. I mean, it'd be different if someone was actually injured or killed, but since ev...

PETA's actions make more sense when you think of them as the Animal Rights movement's equivalent of the Westboro Baptist Church. They're crazy, but they're predictable.

To put this into perspective. In the last 7 months, industrial action by the unions has amounted to 6 hours. Just watching the news for the last week, you should realise 6 hours sounds strangely low. The union rep who made the 6 hour statement was talking about only his own union, the pilots union....

I still don't know what they want beyond 'make things better'. The sound bites I get on the news certainly aren't helping their cause. Given that reporters (from what I've seen of the coverage) seem to be avoiding the more articulate protestors like Lawrence Lessig (Harvard law professor and Creati...

Living in Australia means that buying games is significantly cheaper for me in America than here. Is it illegal if my friend in the US buys a game on steam, gifts it to me, and I paypal him the cost of the game (plus some 'tip' money)? That's totally above board. Just try and do it with someone who...

Re: Calls to boycott Bali
The sad thing about these kinds of cases is that many people seem to get a very warped idea of the case due to the slant of the media coverage generally being sympathetic to the criminal. I've run into surprising numbers of people who still believe that Schappelle Corby was innocent.

I can tell you outright that Russian versions of games on Steam are sold cheaper partly because they *are* locked, unlike most games on Steam. Trying to play them from a non-Russian IP will get your account flagged. That you're safe just activating them on a Russian IP is a myth started by scammers.

Out of interest, is there any particular reason Putin didn't go down the usual dictator route of getting the constitution changed so he can be elected President for Life? Is it only to maintain the illusion that he cares about rule of law?

They've gotten Android working on the Nook, so I imagine someone's going to find some way to get it on here. If they do, well, that'd make a pretty decent tablet for the price. Not quite so easy, as the Nook was using Android from day one, and all they did was find a way to root it. WebOS is essent...
